Talk Boost KS1 Flyer

Talk Boost KS1 is a targeted and evidence-based intervention programme, which supports language delayed children in Reception and Key Stage One (KS1) to make progress with their language and communication skills. The programme is delivered in primary schools by classroom teachers and assistants and provides a structured programme that accelerates children’s progress in language and communication by an average of 18 months after a ten week intervention. Since launch over 40,000 children have benefited from the programme. Talk Boost is aimed at 4-7 year olds with delayed speech, language and communication. These children often have difficulties with reading, writing, and spelling and are more likely to have behavioural issues. Children who are identified with delayed language by using the Progression Tool will attend three Talk Boost sessions per week in small groups, each lasting 30-40 minutes. Each session is run by a Talk Boost trained teaching assistant who understands the importance of the different components of language and how they are introduced and practised throughout the 10 weeks. In addition to this the teacher will run a weekly whole-class activity and there are activities that can be practiced at home. Early Talk Boost flyer

Early Talk Boost flyer

Early Talk Boost is a targeted intervention aimed at 3-4 year old children with delayed language development helping to boost their language skills to help narrow the gap between them and their peers. Our initial findings show that after Early Talk Boost, children make statistically significant progress in their early language. On average they make 6 months progress after a nine week intervention helping them to catch up with other children their age. This is twice the amount of progress of children not having the intervention. The intervention is delivered 3 times per week during circle/story time by a trained early years practitioner to a group of up to 8 children over a 9 week period. The intervention is supported by an initial training package and includes an Early Talk Boost Tracker to help identify appropriate children for the intervention and to measure their progress. The intervention also includes a workshop for parents/carers to enable them to develop children’s communication and language skills at home. For more information, visit http://www.ican.org.uk/ICAN-Training/Early/Early-Talk-Boost.aspx or call 0207 843 2515.
