Year 8 Spring-Summer SOW 2017 Development 12) Millennium Development Goals to SDGs WITH ANSWERS

A new and final lesson to add to the current scheme of work written last year. The lesson focuses on the MDGs moving to the SDGs- in particular a student’s story on eduction as one of the MDGs. The lesson begins with a settler looking at what is poverty WITH ANSWERS in key terms. The starter is Sasha’s story based on the UN activties. I have provided a work booklet to support all of the activities attached. The main associates with the students by showing them a student in another country and their daily life of attending school. The other main activity is introducing the MDGs through the 8 goals of Africa and the WJEC GCSE textbook. If time, the articles attached question whether these goals were fessible. The main group task involves different role tasks and an A4 sheet within the booklet to complete on Haiti. The rest of the main introduces briefly the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It leads into a development task of asking ways to reduce poverty. This can be a sales pitch as the plenary task or you can alternatively complete a Twitter task.

Year 8 Spring-Summer SOW 2017 Development 11) Development (2) WITH ANSWERS

A new lesson to add to the current scheme of work written last year. The lesson reflects on development indicators and now identifies common ones and rank countries in accordance to this. The lesson begins with a settler comparing the quality of life and standard of living for both London and Kiberia. See my earlier lessons for this. The starter is geographical hangman to test key words from the previous lesson. Activity 1 ask students to place material goods in order of importance and then poses a question to them. The activity that follows is an identification of common development indicators followed by attributing whether it is Ghana or UK. The final activity is a ranking exercise whereby students have to use mathematic skills to analyze country development. The development is a strategy for analyzing graphs using ‘GCSE’. I have attached the slide opposite. Alternatively you can use the development, sales pitch, for students to showcase their knowledge in front of the class. The mini-plenary is 3.2.1 analysis followed by the plenary hot potato.
