The students through the 2 lessons on Atlases are guided on how to use an Atlas and the lesson is turned into a gameshow and challenge in pairs to become the Atlas Dons of the lesson. The settler question is a metacognitive activity to implement exam questions at KS3 on previous learning. This question has ANSWERS to peer or self assess. The homework is assessed with answers on the board taken from the previous lesson's work. The starter activity is a countries picture quiz. Can you guess the name of the country in the picture? ANSWER= Wales. Students work in pairs to guess the name of 15 countries. Keeps points updated on board throughout the lesson for an overall team winners. This activity has ANSWERS. I usually set a spelling test for the countries the following lesson. The main activity is a guided worksheet Atlas activity using the Oxford Student Atlas. Students are then challenged using the guided steps to be the first pair to find the country. Add points to the board for the winners of each round. The development is an Atlas Hunt for 3 countries and their statistics using the Atlas and then questions associated with size, geographical landscapes etc. This has an ANSWER sheet. Again award points for the winners. The plenary is a game of key word ping pong.

Year 7 Making Connections 2017-2018 3) How to use an Atlas (2) WITH ANSWERS

The lesson consolidates how to use an atlas by using it as a pair challenge activity with winners for the lesson. The settler task is a student-led mind map with different roles to recap the importance of Atlases. The starter task seen opposite is group spelling word catch game whereby the students individually spell a letter of a key term. It is the first to spell the word whilst throwing the ball to sit down that wins a point- 3 points wins. The main task is an Atlas Scavenger Hunt using the Atlas as a competition in class. The winning team is the one that achieves the hidden word- Theatre of the Round Earth - which is the first map ever created which was shown in the previous lesson. I have attached the previous lesson's worksheet also. The development is the scavenger hunt and the flag activity worksheet is the main. Both worksheets have ANSWERS for peer or self assessment. The plenary is a game of pictionary with Danger (act out) and All Play cards.

The lesson focuses on the international connections students have around the world. It has innovative activities that relate to artefacts and introducing social media to Geography. The lesson is as follows: Settler: Identify the pictures whether they are local, national or international. Starter: Look at the 8 objects located around the room and make a judgement with your partner to what country they are located originally from. Students have to locate the object and where it is from on their world map. This activity includes ANSWERS. Homework: Complete the worksheet using either an Atlas at home or Google/school planner. Subscribe to the Geography YouTube channel and Blog. Main: Using your knowledge and world map complete the World Map template from the starter to include 5 of your international connections. Challenge: For 1 connection write how and why you are connected to that place. Development: Filming for YouTube, on the map below teach the class about an international connection you have and why. Tell the class whether it is local, national or international. Challenge: How does this show a connected world? Plenary: Photo chase images around the world to locate them on a local, national or international scale and what connection they are.

The lesson has been changed to culminate in answering the 8 mark exam question below. The students work on the different urban trends within the UK and the time period, causes and consequences of these processes. This is compared with the urban trends existing in LIDCs and EDCs. The main activity has a mark scheme for students to assess each other's posters. The homework consolidates the learning and is an assessment for students to give in for homework. The lesson works on the new strategy for students for 8 mark questions of PEEL (Point Evidence Explain and Link). Compare the causes and consequences of recent urban trends in ACs with those in LIDCs and EDC. [8 marks]

2017-2018 PSHE Year 7 Introduction 3) Good News Newspaper- A reflection on Term 1

The aim of this PSHE lesson is to reflect on the first half term - however can be used at Christmas - and ties in to students assessing their own integration into the school. I send these home to parents. The lesson ties in to Diwali day which was celebrated on the 20th October. I have also included a Tutor Prayer for this activity. The main activity is for students to create a Newspaper article on their best moments of the half term. It ties in to the old Magic Moments advert for quality street in which I provide the song and sweets to those who recall their best magic moment of the term. The end of tutor sees the students perfect their best Bollywood dance moves from the film 'Slumdog Millionaire' and a quote of the day.

2017-2018 PSHE Year 7 Introduction 2) Belonging

The second lesson used in conjunction to open day. The aim of the session is students ascertain how they belong outside of school and within the school community. They create the name of your form to place on your door to your classroom. See attached photo. The settler is a brainache task to work out the famous celebrity using literacy skills. The ANSWER is on the page. The word wheel exercise works out the name of the lesson on slide 3. The students then create a word stitch of all the words associated with the word belonging. The video on the next slide helps students identify this concept which they then write ideas in a mind map with their peers. The Morrison advert attached links students to belonging in real life. The main task which will span 2 PSHE Tutor times is to create a hand (see opposite) around the concept of belonging outside of school in the fingers and then within the school logo within it. The PowerPoint ends with a Quote of the Day.
