This is a power point to go with a year 2 investigation lesson where children will sort and categorize everyday objects according to given criteria initially, then creating their own criteria based on their observations of the material properties. (For example: hard/soft)

Who doesn’t love penguins? This is a Year 2 reading comprehension activity, laid out a little like end of Y2 SATS paper. Two levels - one for children who need a lot more support with this kind of activity. Designed to be worked through as a class or group to support retrieval of info from a text. Useful as a homework activity. Matches with any kind of Talk4writing non fiction unit (text could be used as an exemplar) Print on A3 paper as a booklet and you’ll be laughing.

Year 2 level reading comprehension practice activity. This could also be used as an exemplar text on a non- fiction talk4writing unit or similar. Enjoy! Please do not share and charge for it, as that would defeat the purpose of me sharing for free. Thank you kindly.

I created these support sheets to give out to my Year 2 children to support independent writing at home. It gives them some ideas for writing and spelling work. We follow ‘Daily 5’ at school so it very much ties in with the routines of ‘Work on writing’ and ‘Word work’.

KS1 MONEY worksheets and problems (UK)

Some activities to support children learning to recognise, count and solve problems with money. Directed at KS1 curriculum but supportive to any children who need to practise counting amounts using coins. It’s beneficial to use these resources alongside real money and for children to touch and discuss the value of coins before trying to add the abstract amounts.

This is some planning I did to align with the Year 2 UK spelling curriculum. It’s useful if your school doesn’t have a phonics program that aligns properly. I find I referenced it even when we followed Read Write Inc phonics, because the demands of the curriculum were higher than what we were teaching!

MATHS GOALS fun and friendly

This is a resource I use with Year 2 to set maths goals. Children can work independently on these goals at home and at school. Goals are linked to the AUSTRALIAN curriculum for year 2 but can be easily adapted to suit the needs of your cohort. They are also loosely universal. I have made them flexible by including 1/2/3 digit as options where suitable.
ANIMAL INFORMATION CARDS

ANIMAL INFORMATION CARDS

These are useful for a reading and fact retrieval activity. I wrote them for reading ability of about age 6-7 or Year 2. Possible lesson ideas - use info to create top trump cards, use info to map animals on a blank world map, use info to take notes, use cards to learn about different animals and test each other, sort and group animals in different ways… the options are endless.
