A teacher that I worked with had a display like this along the top of the white board at the front of this class. This meant it was always there for the children to refer to. I could also point to place value columns from where they were seated.
Abbreviations have also been included using capital letters for value columns to the left of the decimal point and lower case abbreviations for columns to the right of the decimal point.
