This is a 30 slide power point presentation covering every aspect of Gene Technology for A2 Biology (OCR or AQA specifications). This is extensive, contains easy to follow notes and diagrams. Will cover at number of A2 lessons and will help with continuity of learning. It covers the following Reverse transcriptase, Restriction endonucleases, in vivo and in vitro techniques, In vivo - vectors, plasmids, transformation and identification using antibiotic resistance markers. In vitro - PCR, primers, DNA polymerase, locating genes using DNA probes, DNA sequencing , Gel Electrophoresis, Restriction Mapping. It then features DNA probes used in medicine, advantages and disadvantages of in vivo and in vitro techniques, uses of gene technology. This resource contains 3 ppts (tried to upload as one but system could not cope?) - all in all 29 slides covering the new AQA syllabus. The ppts follow on from each other. They start with gametes, zygotes, ovum, sperm, fertilisation, homologous chromosomes, haploid and diploid numbers. Second ppt covers meiosis (stages, key terms, chiasmata, bivalents, crossing over, independent segregation, first and second division, etc. It finishes with different life cycles with diploid and haploid numbers. These power points were made for my KS3 students but I also used it with my GCSE foundation students to help them understand how to draw a correct scientific Table and when to use a bar graph and when to use a line graph. It also explains the difference between independent and dependent variables. These power points explains how to compose a Good Table (headings, columns, anomalies, averages) and how to plot the correct graph. It concentrates on bar graphs and line graphs, independent and dependent variables. Actual examples shown and finishes with a task for the students as a plenary. Also included are help sheets for table and graph drawing which can be stuck in the front of students books as a reminder. (I print both and print as A5 help sheets.

These 5 worksheets were developed for low ability / SEN students to understand crude oil formation and hydrocarbons. There are story boards (formation of crude oil), and easy worksheets with "fill in the gaps" . These worked brilliantly with my low ability BTec group, but I also used them as starters and plenarys for my Foundation GCSE Chemistry group. Fun and easy to follow and complete. It covers key terms, adaptations, competition, food chains, predator prey graphs, quadrats, transects, deforestation, peat bogs, global warming and includes extra slides to explain indicator species (not on syllabus but important for students to know). Carbon worksheets and quadrat worksheet attached as well. My foundation students have just passed with level 5/6 across the whole class of 24 students and loved the power point.
