ENGLISH NUMBERS 0-100 WORD SEARCHES

(0)
ESL EFL ENGLISH NUMBERS 0-100 Ten differentiated word searches with answer keys ideal for advanced beginner English into intermediate English students. Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practising and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on Numbers 0-100 in English, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - enabling learners to engage with the target vocabulary, but also aligning with cross-curricular learning - working on ***reading, writing, spelling, numeracy and language skills in genera***l. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. As they move through the grids, their language skills are challenged in a range of ways - from straightforward vocabulary searching, to gap-fill, scrambled letters and sentence questions, which feature mathematical language in English and more complex linguistic structures. Hyphens are really important in English numbers, and the grids feature these quite clearly, in order to ensure that learners can practise this aspect of language. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. For me, answer keys are essential, as they not only provide learners with another opportunity to engage with language, but they also help them develop more independence in their learning. They’re also a great teacher time-saver - a real bonus! There are two formats to choose from - the search grids and answer keys as separate worksheets, and also a file with both grids and answer keys together, so that you can print each grid and key double-sided, according to which suits your classroom needs better. Your students will find these freebies helpful: ENGLISH NUMBERS 0-100 LIST #1 (2 pages, portrait format) https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/eslenglish-numbers-0-100-list-1-12506730 ENGLISH NUMBERS 0-100 LIST #2 (1 page, landscape format) https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/esl-english-numbers-0-100-list-2-12506748 Have a browse in my store for more English word searches, and a wide range of other English Language teaching and learning activities, with dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies too! ANGLAIS ESL EFL ENGLISH VOCABULARY CARDS FOR FRENCH-SPEAKING ENGLISH LEARNERS 54 beginner English words & phrases with 54 matching French vocabulary cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their beginner English vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The game cards and accompanying Recall & Write activities have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. Set 2 features 54 common beginning words & phrases in the following categories: Numbers 0-21 : My family : Colors : Conversation : Questions and Answers Students can work independently of the teacher, challenging themselves and each other in their best English accent to find all the matching words & phrases cards in English and French. The card templates allow students to apply their knowledge a little more practically, as they create mini-quiz cards for each other. The Reference, Recall & Write book has 8 pages. It includes an alphabetical English-French reference list of all 54 words & phrases. There are two written recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One This challenge requires students to write the corresponding French word or phrase from an English prompt. The words and phrases are in random, rather than category order - this challenges the memory more than when the vocab is in the order learners first learn it in. Written Recall Challenge Two This challenge requires students to write the corresponding English word or phrase from a French prompt. The words and phrases are again in random, rather than category order. I encourage students to visit the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps page regularly, reflecting not only on the words and phrases they feel confident about, but also how they think their skills in listening, speaking, pronouncing English, reading and writing are developing - and equally importantly, what they can reasonably do to keep improving. We also use their notes to guide and inform whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is really useful, and a very popular activity with students too. Laminate the game cards if you can - they are far more learner-friendly, and the additional prep and expense is definitely worth it, as the cards will last for years. MATH CENTER NUMBERS 0-10 ACTIVITIES -ideal for math centers and independent learning. Word searches a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practicing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. The set features five differentiated word searches, focusing on high-frequency words : Numbers 0-10, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - consolidating not only new words and vocabulary (numbers), but also working on reading, writing, spelling and literacy skills in general. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. For additional consolidation, they also rewrite each number in the word column. There are also two question and answer key grid templates for learners to create their own searches for each other — this is a really popular activity, and I’ve found that my learners often like to create grids for family at home too. The templates enable learners to apply their language practically and creatively, which is really important at this stage of literacy development. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it! For me, answer keys are essential, as they not only provide learners with another opportunity to engage with language, but they also help them develop more independence in their learning. They’re also a great teacher time-saver - a real bonus! The word searches are in landscape format, mirroring the common direction of reading and writing from left to right, facilitating learner engagement with the activity. The landscape format is also really useful for learners whose first language is written from right to left. There is a single grid per 8.5 x 11 (A4) sheet - I like to ensure that text is accessible to all learners - and at this stage of their learning, it’s absolutely essential that language looks accessible and manageable. Have a look at this Math Center Numbers 0-10 word search freebie - it’s the same format as these word searches, and you can see if they will suit your learners: MATH CENTER ACTIVITIES : NUMBERS 0-10 WORD SEARCH FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/math-center-numbers-0-10-word-search-freebie-12660553 Please note this is the Math Center edition of my ESL / EFL Numbers 0-10 word searches. SPANISH DOMINOES Common Spanish verbs dominoes games: 3 games and challenges are a lively alternative to more traditional grammar & vocabulary ‘drilling’ activities. They will help students build up and embed their vocabulary and knowledge of common Spanish verbs in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. There are 99 high-frequency Spanish verbs in the infinitive form, along with the corresponding English verbs. Students can work happily challenging themselves and each other to create a perfect domino bilingual verb sequence, on the classroom floor, or on a long(ish) table, by matching the Spanish and English verbs. The game has a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading, and also helps students identify cognates and words that may look similar to English, but mean something different. There are three games, each with a different level of challenge: Challenge One features the verbs in alphabetical order, Spanish to English Challenge Two features the verbs in random order, also Spanish to English Challenge Three again features the verbs in random order, but this time from English to Spanish, which works a little different in terms of vocab recall There’s a full alphabetical Spanish-English verb list, which students find really useful as they begin to build and embed their verb vocabulary - we find it useful to have a quick look through the list prior to playing for the first time, and it’s also really good for some additional whole-group pronunciation practice. Each challenge is on a different background, so that they can be easily identified. To ensure successful learning, play regularly as you work with verbs and vocabulary - against a timer in teams works well to map both improved recall and word recognition, as well as increasing confidence - students genuinely enjoy seeing if they can beat their own time record. Dominoes games work really well in language learning as a free-choice activity - I have folders of resources for students to select their own activity, according to what they feel they would most like to revisit. We have free-choice activity time every few lessons for a half hour or so, which also provides a welcome break from the particular target focus. There’s definitely prep involved - printing and cutting out. I always laminate my dominoes games, as they’re far more learner-friendly, and they last for absolutely years, so once you’re prepped the set or several sets, you will never have to prep the games again. SPANISH VEGETABLES WORD SEARCHES

ELEMENTARY SPANISH FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER SPANISH VEGETABLES Sopas de Letras are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on a range of vegetables in Spanish, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The fruits include***masculine, feminine, singular and plural***, with a blend of definite and indefinite articles - this really helps students think a little more laterally about language, and their new vocabulary - they may learn la patata, and it’s useful to give students opportunity to think about grammatical concepts, and how la becomes una for example. I’ve selected high-frequency vegetables, such as potato or cabbage, and also vegetables which may be new to some learners, such as asparagus or artichoke. There are a range of phonemes and sounds too, such as the letter j (ajo)*, which is a sound particular to Spanish, and the letter ñ (champiñones), as the *tilde + n plays a very important role in Spanish pronunciation. There are 5 Spanish to Spanish grids, labelled with carrots, where learners are prompted with the Spanish words, and look for them in Spanish in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. There are also 5 English to Spanish grids, labelled with a pepper, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the Spanish equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing and spelling in Spanish, they also complete the Spanish word list on each page. Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers, or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are really essential: they offer learners an additional opportunity to engage with language, and they genuinely enjoy ‘correcting’ their own, and particularly each others’ work. The word searches are in landscape format, as I’ve found this to be the best format for beginner language learners - language is very clear and accessible. GERMAN CHRISTMAS I HAVE WHO HAS

(0)
DAZ DAF GERMAN CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES I have, Who has… ? Ich habe… Wer hat… ? is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for honing language skills during the Christmas period in school. It’s great to learn some German Christmas vocab, though I don’t expect my students to learn all 32 words necessarily - but it’s equally important to introduce them to German Christmas traditions and practices through the images and words, and the game certainly promotes discussion about Christmas in Germany and German-speaking countries in particular, and Christmas around the World in general. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. Students walk around, talking to each other and working together to create the chain. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. The aim of the game is to create an alphabetical word chain - this can either be a person chain, though I prefer to have students work together to create an alphabetical line on a table, or even on the floor. There are 32 German Christmas words, arranged alphabetically. The first and last cards have Das ist die erste Karte and Das ist die letzte Karte written on them. If you have fewer than 32 students in your group, randomly select several to have more than one card. My students love it when I play too! The target vocab focuses on the definite article, masculine, feminine and neuter, with both singular and plural - this also offers a useful opportunity to talk about grammatical concepts if your students are at that particular stage, particularly how the singular der changes to den when it is a direct object, which is great for consolidating learning about the accusative case. Try to laminate the cards if you can - they’re far more learner-friendly, and they do last for absolutely years! Students can also apply their language skills very practically (and artistically!) by creating their own cards on the template, in random rather than alphabetical order. We tend to play against a timer, often in teams each with a German Christmas team name, (you’ll need a couple of sets for this) - my students really enjoy trying to beat their own record! Get the most from the game by playing as often as you can during the Christmas season. Have a browse in my store for more German Christmas activities, with a wide range of other German language teaching and learning materials, with lots of freebies too! Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of vegetables in German in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words and more complex sentences in German. Sentence structure and word order may differ from students’ first and/or home language, so it’s important to provide them with opportunities to engage with language that moves beyond single-unit vocabulary as soon as possible. It also gives them chance to apply language in a practical, real-world context, which in turn helps embed both vocab and grammatical concepts into longer-term memory. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on the target vocab, but also to work on German language skills in general, such as cases, adjectival endings, grammatical structures such as um… zu + infinitive and so on. The goal is not simply to learn the target vocabulary in German, but also to enjoy working with German, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions are all in German, and range in complexity and challenge. I usually read through questions before my students work with the cards for the first time, to ensure that everyone understands any new or unknown language and structures. I always include additional vocabulary to add a little challenge, and to encourage students to think a little more creatively and independently. I’ve provided an alphabetical German-English and English-German vegetables list in case you don’t have access to bilingual dictionaries. BACK TO SCHOOL GERMAN NUMBERS 0-31 BUNTING BANNERS It’s great to create a new look for the new school year - I use bunting / banners not only to create a real German look and feel in the learning environment, but also to promote everyday language and core vocabulary for learners of all ages. Bunting works well throughout the entire school year, but definitely has a celebratory back to school feel! The bunting has a small tag that you can clip to a line of string across the room (like a washing line!), or to a wall. Have a look at this German Greetings Guten Tag banners bunting freebie - the design is exactly the same as this set, so you’ll be able to see if it would suit your classroom: GERMAN GREETINGS BUNTING BANNERS FREEBIE : GUTEN TAG https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/resource-12561698 This resource is copyright, all rights reserved. GERMAN FRUITS FLASHCARDS POSTERS

DAZ DAF GERMAN FRUITS FLASHCARDS POSTERS My younger students love to see German displays in the classroom, and they also work really well for older beginner German learners too. There are 25 fruits, definite article, feminine and masculine, singular and plural - that’s so useful as a way into the concept of gender. I tend to vary my displays quite regularly, and have different posters up at various times of the school year. We use them as speaking and pronunciation prompts, and for guessing games too. We don’t actually learn 25 fruits at this stage, but I use a range that includes some that children may not know yet, such as starfruit and redcurrants. That’s ideal for discussing healthy eating, and for generally developing children’s vocabulary in their own language too. The posters work really well as flashcards too, and they’re great for introducing and practicing language with a ‘low-tech’ method, giving us all a break from the whiteboard, which children definitely enjoy! The fruits are: green apples # red apple # bananas # cherries # dates # fig # green #grapes # red grapes # kiwi # lemon # mango # nectarine # olives # oranges # papaya # peach # pears # pineapple # pumpkin # raspberry # redcurrants # rhubarb # starfruit # strawberries # watermelon Have a browse in my store for more German flashcards / posters, and a wide range of other German teaching and learning materials, with dollar deals and lots of freebies too! The flashcards / posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag or black wave, so 50 posters in total. The product is non-editable in a zipped format. There are 36 differentiated questions, answer key, recording sheet and number reference sheet. The cards have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling, and really help students develop more independence in their learning, moving away from more teacher-led tasks and activities. There’s also a question card template for students to apply language creatively and practically, which is an essential aspect of successful language learning, and is also a really popular activity with my students. There’s definitely a UK theme running through many of the questions, featuring questions about fish and chips and the Loch Ness Monster for example. The resource comprises the following non-editable files in a zipped format: 36 differentiated question cards 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Print, laminate and cut out. Laminating is definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they cards are far more learner-friendly, and last for absolutely years. answer recording sheet we mostly use class notebooks for recording answers, as this saves prep time and paper, though recording sheets are really useful for more formal assessment purposes. answer key laminate if you can, and distribute in class - one answer key for each small group is sufficient. I always give answer keys for task cards, however young the learner - they really help them develop more independence in, and responsibility for, their learning, and also give them an additional opportunity to engage with language. question card template for students to apply their knowledge practically and creatively, which is an essential element in successful language learning, and is a really popular activity too. number reference sheet which students really useful as a learning support resource - it’s great as a year-round resource too, which they can put into their learning binders to call upon whenever they need it. FRENCH ANIMALS FLASHCARDS #1

PRIMARY FRENCH IMMERSION ANIMALS FLASHCARDS POSTERS These French animals display posters / flashcards create a fabulous French look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote French as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of French. They introduce learners to a range of animals in French from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with how French words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. Students definitely notice the different words for a/an, and ask why some animals are un, and others are une. I’ve used this as a useful prompt to introduce the concept of gender. There are 20 animals using the masculine and feminine indefinite article, which is a great opportunity to begin to compare French to English. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as ours and loup. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from their first language, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts in both languages, which I’ve found to be really useful for both current and later learning. The animals are: a bear : a bee : a bird : a butterfly : a cat : a dog : a fish : a fox : a frog : a horse : a kangaroo : a monkey : a mouse : an owl : a parrot : a rabbit : a spider : a squirrel : a turtle / a tortoise : a wolf It doesn’t matter if some of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the posters / flashcards provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in French, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of new and unknown words from visual clues or prompts. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practice language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. There are three sets of 20 9.5x11 (A4) portrait posters, each with a different background for you to choose from: French flag, animal footprint or black wave. INTERMEDIATE ITALIAN BEGINNER ITALIAN ADVANCED ITALIAN PREPOSITIONS 40 high-frequency Italian prepositions in the list, alphabetically Italian-English and English-Italian. I create a lot of essential high-frequency Italian vocab lists for my Italian language students, as they find them really useful, both in the classroom and at home. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Italian flag, which I tend to use for Italian vocabulary display, or black wave. I use a background for vocabulary lists quite a lot, because it does make them more visually appealing, which is really important for language learners who do have a lot of vocabulary to learn. ITALIAN REFLEXIVE VERBS LIST FREEBIE #1

INTERMEDIATE ITALIAN BEGINNER ITALIAN REFLEXIVE VERBS LIST I give my language learners of all grades and learning phases a whole series of reference lists, that build up into a really comprehensive vocab reference bank over the course of their language learning program. They’re really popular with my students, as they know they can just go to their reference file or folder, and find what they need. They tell me that they feel far more confident about their Italian when they have a good grasp of core high-frequency Italian vocabulary. They’re great for quick Italian vocabulary quizzes too. There are of 25 high-frequency Italian reflexive verbs in the infinitive form, alphabetically both Italian-English and English-Italian - my students get these pretty much at the beginning of their program, even before we start to work on conjugation. If my group is small, and depending on the particular work we’re doing, I provide students with a set of double-sided and laminated reference resources. My language students all have a reference file or folder, again from the beginning of their learning, and part of helping them develop independence in, and responsibility for, their learning, is to give them opportunity to keep their learning resources in good order, and easily accessible. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Italian flag, which I tend to use for vocabulary display, and black wave. I use a background for vocab lists, as feedback from learners over the years suggests that a visual can be helpful when learning what can be a large amount of new Italian vocabulary.
