GEOGRAPHY USA STATES & CAPITALS ALL THE US STATES AND THEIR CAPITALS two quizzes with 100 multiple-choice questions There are two multiple choice quizzes, each with 50 questions, so 100 questions in total. The structure of the question in Quiz 1 is: The capital of Alabama is… and there are three possible options given - the correct answer is in capital letters. The structure of the question in Quiz 2 is: Montgomery is the capital of… again with three possible answer options, with the correct answer in capital letters. I laminate the cards, because they do last for years, and are far easier to handle. I put the question cards in a box or tin, and select cards randomly - sometimes I have a single quiz in the box, and sometimes I have both quizzes. We do play them quite often, as students really enjoy the competitive element, and it does help recall. The quizzes also work well when students ask the questions. Teams continue to get questions as long as they give the correct answer — you can have as many teams as suits your class - we also play in pairs too, especially if we’re playing a number of different quizzes at the same time. I’ve added 8 general knowledge questions too, so that there are six full questions on the final sheet, and in that way, there’s no wasted paper or laminate sheet. The question cards do look good with the color background, and there’s a different background for each quiz, but to keep costs down, I’ve also included a set with no background. The posters definitely give the learning environment a fabulous French look and feel, promoting French as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of learners. FSL FLE FRENCH FRUITS WORD SEARCHES Mots Cachés are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in French, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on 25 fruits in French, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The fruits include masculine, feminine, singular and plural, with a blend of definite and indefinite articles - this really helps learners think a little more laterally about language, and their new vocab - they may learn la pomme for example, and it’s useful to give students opportunity to think about grammatical concepts, and how la becomes une for example. I’ve selected high-frequency fruits, such as apple or pear, and also fruits which may be new to some learners, such as redcurrant or starfruit. There are a range of phonemes and sounds too, such as the silent ll (groseille) and the use of the plural before a vowel, to show that the letter s isn’t always silent, for example les ananas or les olives. There are 5 French to French grids, labelled with a lemon, where learners are prompted with the French words, and look for them in French in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test! There are also 5 English to French grids, labelled with a raspberry, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the French equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing/spelling in French, they also complete the French word list on each page. Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it.
