Kennings- Year 4 Poetry Planning

Kennings- Year 4 Poetry Planning

A weeks worth of planning and resources for kennings. This weeks plan involves immersing children into poetry by getting them to identify the features of a kenning and to create their own by the end of the week. To make it more interesting, I have included a research day for children to collect facts for their kenning about one of Africa's top 5 animals. (lion, buffalo, leopard, elephant and rhino). At the end of the week when they are writing their kenning, they will write it on a background of their chosen animal. I have included powerpoint presentations also. These lessons also touch on alliteration. The kennings produced at the end of the week are beautiful and colourful also, they make a great display! Please review this resource and also check out my other resources if you get a chance: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Morrisr9

Playscripts Year 4

Playscripts Year 4

These playscripts allow children to create their own play while learning the features of the play-script also. I have attached fairy tales that are turned into playscripts. The features that they will learn how to use are: *Cast list * Scene Headings * Character name and : * Stage Directions The first lesson allows children to create their own list of the features of a playscript by finding them themselves. This exploratory, paired learning works best when it comes to the end product at the end of the week. Children are encouraged to choose a fairytale that they already know to alter slightly, to make the actual story part easier. There is a SPAG lesson included also on adverbs. This will help children to use them for the stage directions also.

Similes and Metaphors: OBSERVATION

Similes and Metaphors: OBSERVATION

Graded: Outstanding This is a lesson that I did for an observation today with the English coordinator. It's a lesson on Tanka poetry. Children learned what a Tanka was the day before, but today they needed to create a bank of similes, metaphors and adjectives to enhance their descriptions that they will use in their poem later in the week. I have differentiated this activity, by providing scaffolding support for the SEN/EAL children in my class. The lesson, as a whole, was intended to be a mixed ability lesson. However, as it was an observation, I needed to include some form of extra support/ scaffolding for some children. This lesson is linked to the Vikings and children need to describe what it would be like to leave their lovely homeland with the beautiful scenery. The resource includes: *a clear, detailed lesson plan, *picture to annotate *powerpoint to explain the meaning of a Tanka (if needed prior to the lesson) *basic flipchart for referall as a class *simile and metaphor sort *simile and metaphor sort (EAL/SEN).

(On the plus side, it's about a chocolate product, which keeps it interesting for them). Prepositions are taught as a starter also to incorporate SPAG into the week of Literacy. This package included: -a clear, detailed lesson plan -3 different powepoints -printable advertisements to annotate -illustrations for children's products -success criteria -planning grid Please leave a review and let me know what you found useful or not and I'll be happy to update the resource.

Bonfire Night: Powerpoint and Activity

Bonfire Night: Powerpoint and Activity

Bonfire Night explained through a colourful, visual powerpoint. I have used a wide range of pictures to teach children about Bonfire Night. As I have a huge portion of EAL learners in my class, I have included simple, clear pictures that make the content easy to understand. The story is told in an interesting way, through use of speech bubbles and cartoon pictures. Easily adaptable for a younger class also. As an activity, I asked children to create a comic strip based on what they learned about Bonfire Night. For EAL or low ability learners, I have included differentiated resources and images to assist them. Materials Year 5

Materials Year 5

This lesson involves an exciting experiment to understand the terms: *dissolve *solute *solution *solvent *soluble Children will work in mixed ability groups and conduct 3 different experiments to see which factors have an influence on dissolving. It worked fantastically in the use and understanding of the scientific terms listed above. Children will then feedback to the class about what they discovered from their investigation and as a class we will conclude as to which factors effect dissolving most. This lesson comes well resourced with: *a step-by-step guide, for each group, in how to conduct their experiment along with the equipment needed. *Key Vocabulary for reference or display purposes. *Flash cards explaining the terms for low ability or visual learners. *A detailed plan *An interactive notebook ppresentation Overall, a very enjoyable lesson which allows the children to learn and understand the scientific terms in a practical way.

Pronouns

Pronouns

This resource is made with a Harry Potter theme. Children are introduced to the term pronouns through a short Harry Potter clip where they can hear how badly pronouns are needed in spoken language as well as written. I have made differentiated work resources for the children to use for low ability, middle ability and high abililty- all still based on the Harry Potter Theme. Children are encouraged to work in groups throughout this lesson to try and practice using pronouns on whiteboards, before their activity. Using a Harry Potter theme worked well in my class as it fun, colourful and different from their normal SPAG lessons, which can sometimes be boring. I have included a powerpoint, worsheets and a detailed plan with this package.

The Literacy planning includes a week's worth of planning and differentiated resources along with an interactive notebook to support the lesson. The Ancient Greece Topic lesson, introduces children to Ancient Greece and provide them with the background knowledge for their Literacy lesson. Both have been taught by myself with my Year 5 class, who LOVED learning about the Ancient Greeks. I bundled them together for anyone (like me), who will teach them on the same/consecutive weeks.

Class Assembly: Myths and Legends

Class Assembly: Myths and Legends

I used this as a class assembly this week and have made the necessary changes to the script that I made throughout rehearsals. This script shows what we learned as a class through story-telling and acting out the myth of Icarus and Daedalus and the legend of the Loch Ness monster. (Scottish Accents included). It is done in the form of Myths and Legends X Factor with judges and a presenter. Both parents and children adored it.
