2D Design Lesson - 'Ear Buddy' earphone holder (2 hour CAD lesson with resources)

Lesson Aim: To learn how to use 2D Design - Tools and skills are investigated by following instructions to make an earphone holder that fits most ear-bud style earphones. Lesson Duration: 2 hours Learning Objectives: Pupils will learn: 1. How to use instructions and peer support to investigate new CAD skills indepedantly. 2. How to use a range of 2D Design tools to produce a CAD design that can be laser cut. 3. How to evaluate the CAD/CAM processes they have used to make the Ear Buddy. Resources included: - 22 page instructional comic for students to follow (tried and tested!) - Powerpoint lesson presentation with differentiated starter and questioning. - Printable sheets for starter and questions/writing frames to scaffold evaluation. - Link to Kahoot Quiz assessment plenary. 2D Design tools used in this project: Grid Lock, Select, Zoom, Mirror Transform, Shape, Attach, Circle, Path, Contour, Text, Arcs and Delete. I used this lesson for an observed lesson and it was judged as outstanding as teacher input was minimal and students were working completely independently, helping each other without prompting. They all really enjoyed doing this project. I have used this lesson successfully for all years in KS3 and KS4.

Marking and feedback slips - Cut your marking time in half!

Marking and feedback slips - Cut your marking time in half!

Marking and feedback slips that will tick every box when it comes to work scrutiny! I designed this marking and feedback system to speed up my marking and to make marking and feedback constructive and consistent across my subject. It impressed SLT so much that it is now going to be rolled out across the whole school at KS3! Encourages pupils to actively engage with and act upon your feedback. It prompts you to address spellings and presentation too. It is great for showing progress pre and post improvement time, and the students seem to understand it well and enjoy boosting their grade.

Numeracy for GCSE 9-1 Design & Technology (Question Papers and Mark Schemes)

The new 9-1 GCSE Design & Technology exams see an increase in numeracy to around 15% of the awarded marks! I collaborated with maths specialists to produce this mock exam paper for KS3/4 pupils, to begin to prepare them, and my colleagues, for the change. The content of the question paper is directly based upon example questions from the sample materials released by AQA, Edexcel and OCR for the new 9-1 exam. There are 2 tiers of the same paper included in this resource pack, foundation and higher, both with full and clear mark schemes.

I originally designed this revision pack for the Edexcel GCSE Resistant Materials specification although the content is transferrable across all boards internationally! Pack contents: REVISE 5 interactive revision games/activities, great printed and laminated for a marketplace style lesson! - 'What am I? game' (all wasting tools) - 'Which wasting tool for the job?' (drills and saws) - 'Wasting or not wasting?' (wasting processes) - Dominoes (abrading tools) - Teach, Test, Trade (planes) RECORD Double-sided A3 revision worksheet for learners to fill in after each activity/game. - 2 differentiated versions included. - Further adaptations can be made within the 'easy-to-edit' file. - Full complete answer sheet on a ppt slide ready to share with your class on the board or digitally (with e.g. Google Classroom). ASSESS: - 40 mark question paper based on past Edexcel exam questions and directly related to the revision activities and worksheet. - Full and clear mark scheme for self/peer marking. PUPIL VOICE: "Sir, can I have some 'What am I?' cards to take home to revise with my family over the holidays?" Josh (15) "I love how much effort Sir puts in to help make our revision more interesting!" Chloe (15) "This kind of revision is so much more interesting than just making mind-maps and revision cards!" Logan (15)

Sexually Transmitted Infections Presentation for PSHE

Sexually Transmitted Infections Presentation for PSHE

(WARNING: CONTAINS IMAGES THAT SOME MAY FIND DISTURBING - INCLUDING PHOTOS OF MALE AND FEMALE GENITALIA). This EDITABLE presentation defines the term STI, outlines common symptoms and causes of sexually transmitted infections using photos and a 'fact file style' delivery. It poses questions about maturity and relationships and gives advice about self-protection. I designed this presentation for PHSE lessons with pupils 13-16 years old. They responded very well and were engaged by the nasty images! The presentation is all beautifuly animated and transitioned to create a professional, memorable and age-appropriate resource for teaching.
