These worksheets give students a number of hypothetical situations and they are asked to select suitable input, process and output components in order to produce the system. This activity not only teaches students about designing electronic systems using a system approach, but it also helps students to research different electronic components that they could use. This activity works well with my electronics information cards, also available from my shop.

Design Technology Electronics Amplifier Project How 2 Weekly Guide PCB 2D Design Files

Everything you need to make run an amplifier project. Aimed at year 8 the PCB is made in school (circuit wizard file in zipped file). We use and MDF frame and glue the front and back into place. Unlike the kitronik version, my version has a switch and an LED within the circuit. This project in a box includes a class booklet, homework booklet, printable guide showing students how to populate the circuit and a weekly presentation that you can use to help students through the various steps. Images are used to show students exactly what they need to do. My students love the freedom of following the guide themselves. Also included is an interactive lesson about the components used in the mono amplifier. The resource includes information cards, a quiz book and a plenary.

Design Technology Electronics Process Components Information Cards

Turn your students into independent learners with these well presented, informative information cards. Packed with information about the Transistors, Darlington Pairs, 555 Monostable and Astable, 4017b Decade counters, 4026 Decade counters, Logic Gates, the NAND gate as all other gates, Operational Amplifiers - Inverting, Non-inverting and as Comparators, and Microcontrollers. I designed these information cards to be used by students who are developing system diagrams. Students often feel overwhelmed when it comes to designing systems because they are unsure which input, process and output components to choose and they are unsure what they all do. These cards provide the answers so students can easily assess whether the component will meet their needs. Obviously the students will learn much more about the individual components along the way! Buy this resource on its own or as part of a bundle including a starter on systems diagrams, and activity where students design systems in order to meet specific design briefs and a set of Input component information cards. Output component cards will be online soon.

4 Resources
This bundle includes how to guides for the development of a lap counter circuit diagram and PCB. Also includes a Portfolio to be used as a teaching aid that teaches about switch bounce, 555 monostable circuits and the 7 segment display. The portfolio also covers task analysis and evaluations using ACCESSFM as a framework. I have also included one of my GCSE files about the 555 times, showing both astable and monostable calculations and mark/ space ratio. If you like this resource please give some positive feedback. Simple quiz on basic electronics principles. A good starter activity for KS3 electronics students or KS4 design technology students requiring to develop their understanding of electronics. More slides can be added with your own specific questions, just copy and paste either the tick or the cross slide and then add your own question, the animation is taken care of. The idea is that students will stand up if the answer is correct and stay sat down for incorrect answers. This physical activity gets students moving and ensures that they are all involved with no opportunity to avoid answering.

Designed to be used with traffic light cards this resource tests students knowledge of electrical conductors and insulators. The image appears on screen with the first click. Students hold up green for a conductor or red for an insulator. The next click reveals the answer. There are some odd one out slides at the end of the presentation that can be used as a discussion point as to why the material is the odd one out. The is a great, simple way of getting some of the basic principles across to KS3 and KS4 Design Technology students.

This Latching alarm project is a great way to introduce students to the role of the thyristor. The students can follow the guide to design their own PCBs. My students use a key switch and magnetic proximity switch, they love the idea that if someone breaks into their room then they won't be able to turn the alarm off unless they have the key! My students make a vacuum formed case, there is a 2D design file included within the zipped file, you can use this as a starting point to make your mould, or you can just make your own. Included is an E-Portfolio template with great instructions showing students what they need to do. The weekly how 2 guide can be used to set lesson objectives. There is an emphasis on independent learning and analysis. Homework activities support learning.
