2. Graded Spelling Test Quiz:
10 spellings, no time constraints but only 1 attempt allowed; learners have the opportunity to review their answers. The word is read out loud and then it is read again in context. They have to enter the correct spelling in the blank space within the sentence. There is a 5-second gap between spellings. Access to speakers or earphones is essential. Learners can replay the game as many times as necessary; this will provide the opportunity to practise spellings. Alternatively, the teacher can read out and allow learners to write on paper; a handout has been provided for this purpose.
Quiz Spelling Test words:
door, every, sugar, break, clothes, floor, gold, people, both, kind
Great activity which assesses the learners' understanding of the correct spellings within a sentence (10 sentences in all).
3. Catch the Word Types Game:
2 lives per question; answers have to be caught in the basket by using the keyboard spacebar and left and right arrow keys. Promotes good eye-hand coordination. Fun activity. Learners have to identify if the highlighted word is an Adjective, Verb, Noun or Adverb. The score is displayed at the end of the game.
Important: Do not separate any of the original digital files from the original folders, just run them inside the folders for the games to work properly. You can also drag the index.html file into the browser to play. Note: Digital games do not seem to work well in Opera browser. All digital games also come in swf and pdf versions.
Please be so kind as to review this resource once you have used it with your learners. This helps me to make any necessary improvements for its future use; please provide constructive feedback.
