Historical Genre Study (Close study of text)

(0)
Students will complete a unit based on a Historical Period. This period will be dictated by the choice of the fictional title. A close study of the text will be widened to historical research, other composers of the time and information texts on the period. A wide variety of texts may be included as well as a brief outline of where the period being studied fits into the literary continuum. Students will be encouraged to actively improve their reading skills, using a wider range of reading strategies. They will also be encouraged to compose extended texts and visual texts demonstrating their ability to use the writing process to draft, edit and refine work. They will be encouraged to reflect on the processes of their learning, recognise their strengths and weaknesses and evaluate the progress they are making in their own composing. During this study, students gain an appreciation for a text in context.
