Understanding public and private body parts is crucial foundation knowledge in sexuality and relationships education. This worksheet allows students to demonstrate and develop their understanding of public and private body parts by drawing on clothing or cutting and pasting the clothing onto the models. We also use different colours to highlight body parts we don’t always have covered that are inappropriate for others to touch such as our mouths, our tongues, our necks, and upper legs. The activity can be extended to get students to indicate where they feel comfortable being touched by different people and where they don’t want anyone to touch. Protective education discussions can focus on what to do when someone touches these places, how you might feel if these areas are touched, how someone else would feel if you touched them in those places, what do other people do when they are touched in private places on their bodies. SECCA developed this resource to support children and adults with learning difficulties and/or developmental disabilities to understand this essential public and private concept. This resource is also available with adult models and in A3 size.

SECCA developed this resource to support psychosexual education of puberty concepts for children and adults with learning difficulties and/or developmental disabilities. It can be used a visual cue for discussions about changes in puberty, as a ‘Noticing the Differences’ activity, or cut up to create a sequencing task for assessing understanding of sequential growth and development with non-verbal learners. It can also help learners to identify where they are now and give a visual framework for understanding how their body will change.
