Seventh grade students will develop a student friendly dictionary as an end-of-the year project. Tier 2 vocabulary terms are used as a source for 8th grade writing.

Students will use note taking skills to paraphrase notes on third-person-point-of-view. Notes will provide and promote better writing when writing various text, constructed responses, and extended responses. Notes are excellent for understand which point of view a piece of text is written from, and changing a point of view when writing.

This project maybe assigned at the beginning or the end of the school year. The project is an idea for getting to know your students. Students may share his/her project with other students as a means of getting to know each other.

Literary Analysis: Using Elements of Literature to write literary analysis essay because this type of assignment encourages you to think about how and why a poem, short story, novel, or play was written.

Students will create flashcards to use as a study tool. Text structures for creating cards are: Compare and Contrast, Problem and Solution, Chronological Order, Cause/ Effect, and Sequence/ Order.

This assignment allows students to understand and comprehend the literary device characterization.

Students will create a visual presentation on the topics associated with The Giver.

Students will use this strategy before reading to activate prior knowledge and build curiosity about the novel. Before reading , students respond to several statements that challenge or support their preconceived ideas about key concepts in the text.

Create your idealized Utopian Society. Described the following components: 1. Government/ Legal court system 2. Economy 3. Education/ Healthcare 4. Housing/ Animals 5. Recreation/ Leisure 6. Transportation/ Military

English has a lot of commonly confused words. They either look alike, sound alike or, worst of all, look and sound alike but have completely different meanings. Other words look and sound different but are similar in meaning, and it's hard to determine which is the correct one in a given context. This activity allows students to understand different meanings and better utilize these words when writing.

As an end of the year activity, students will re-live his/ her school year and use writing skills taught throughout the year to complete pages of the memory book. This is a great substitution for students not purchasing a year book.

Students will create a PowerPoint Presentation after completing reading The Giver.
