Spanish Prepositions, Las Preposiciones Rhyme
When teaching the location prepositions in Spanish, I use this rhyme with gestures to help my students. This Word doc includes the rhyme (with the English translation) and a link to my Youtube video showing the gesture for each preposition.
El Camino de Santiago
PPT presentation with listening guide that gives background into Spain's famous Camino de Santiago de Compostela. St. James Way. This presentation is completely in Spanish yet very comprehensible. A great way to give your students background on this cultural phenomenon. Also comes with a listening guide to keep students engaged during the presentation.
Cuento de Hadas - Fairy Tale Project (Preterite vs. Imperfect)
To help my students understand when to use the Preterit or Imperfect in Spanish, I have them read and write fairy tales. In this zipped file you will find instructions, a template I give to students to help them brainstorm their Fairy Tale, and a 23 slide, example Powerpoint.
Día De Acción de Gracias Lotería, Thanksgiving Bingo
This has become a fun tradition in my Spanish classes. The day before Thanksgiving break we always play "Lotería" with Thanksgiving vocab. Included is the 24 space board (1 space "gratis") and a vocabulary list of 42 words. I am including a Word and PDF of the list in case you would like to modify it. I have also included a detailed instruction sheet with some tips that I have learned over the years to help the game go better.
Imperfect Subjunctive Powerpoint
This is the Powerpoint I use to teach my students the Imperfect Subjunctive. This Powerpoint assumes that they have already learned the Present Subjunctive. I use WEDDING for my Subjunctive triggers. Since this is a Powerpoint file it could be easily modified for the WEIRDOs out there. (a little Spanish teacher joke) :) There are 14 slides with 3 interactive ¡Practiquemos! slides to allow students to check their comprehension.
Spanish Names - Los Nombres en Español
List of over 130 boy and 130 girl Spanish names on each page. Simply print the two pages and copy about 20 of each onto blue and pink sheets of paper respectively.
Great to hand out at the beginning of the year when students choose their Spanish names. Collect them and reuse year after year.
Don Quijote (Quixote) Intro Powerpoint
This is the Powerpoint I use to introduce students to Quijote and Cervantes before we read the Teacher's Discovery graphic novel. This multimedia powerpoint is almost entirely in Spanish but with vocabulary helps to make it comprehensible for Spanish 3's.
Los Reyes Magos - Three Kings Day Presentation
Teach your students about how Spanish speaking countries celebrate Epiphany (Día de los Reyes Magos) with this authentic resource. Contains a powerpoint presentation of Nicaraguan Poet, Rubén Darío's poem "Los Reyes Magos," with background information on the author and holiday, and a listening guide (in .doc and .pdf format) with directions for students to write their own letter to the Reyes at the end.
WARNING: Because of the holiday, the poem has Christian elements in it. I recommend that you read the poem before buying. Just Google "Rubén Darío Los Reyes Magos."
El Futuro, The Future Tense in Spanish
This powerpoint is what I use when I introduce the Future Tense in my upper level Spanish classes. The powerpoint is over 90% in Spanish (per ACTFL guidelines). There are two opportunities for students to practice/formative assessment.
The Spanish Royal Family - La Familia Real de España
When you are presenting family vocabulary words, why not use a culturally authentic example? This Powerpoint uses the Spanish royal family tree to introduce words like padre, madre, hijo, etc.
UPDATED to reflect the abdication of Juan Carlos.
Por vs. Para Graphic
I developed this graphic to help my students conceptualize Por vs. Para. This graphic illustrates the transient nature of Por while showing Para as more of an end point.
On page 2 I have written color coded sentences that illustrate the explanations on the graphic. The sentences are exactly alike except for the word Por or Para. There is also an explanation of what is being said in parentheses.
The 3 Moods of Spanish (intro to the Subjunctive)
Are your students struggling to understand the Subjunctive mood? This Powerpoint explains, in simple terms, the 3 different moods in Spanish: Indicative, Imperative, and Subjunctive. I use this as a primer before we look at when and how to use the Subjunctive in my upper level Spanish classes.
El Conditional, The Conditional Tense in Spanish
This powerpoint is what I use when I introduce the Conditional Tense in my upper level Spanish classes. The powerpoint is over 90% in Spanish (per ACTFL guidelines). There are two opportunities for students to practice/formative assessment.
Complete set of "Mi Propio Auto" Quizzes
Quizzes for every chapter of the Blaine Ray novel "Mi Propio Auto." Assess students vocabulary and comprehension. Use as a formative or summative assessment. Open or closed book. Answer keys are provided for each quiz.
Burrito Sabanero Activity
Teach your students this authentic Christmas carol (villancico) from Venezuela. Included is a cloze activity and explanation of regional vocabulary. Also included, is a brief grammar review sheet over the concepts of diminutives and correctly using accent marks using examples from the song.
Spanish Storyboard
This is the storyboard template that I use for my Spanish classes when we read different TPRS novels such as ¿Dónde Está Eduardo?, Rebeldes de Tejas, Esperanza, Vida y Muerte en la Mara Salvatrucha, La Hija del Sastre, Guerra Sucia, etc. This storyboard template is blank, so it could be used for whatever novel you use. The template asks students to write their name, the book, the chapter, who, when, and where in Spanish. I sometimes use it as a worksheet and sometimes I use it as an assessment. It works great for both.
Dice Game - Conjugation Practice
This simple, low prep game is a fun way to help students practice conjugating verbs. This game can be reused every time you introduce a new verb tense, i.e. Preterite, Imperfect, Future, Conditional, etc... Included is a PDF and DOC so that you can use right away, or modify this to fit your specific needs. Also included is an instruction page for the the teacher with tips on how to best implement this in your classroom.
Ser vs. Estar Powerpoint
This powerpoint is what I use when I talk about the grammar point of Ser vs. Estar in my Spanish classes. The powerpoint is over 90% in comprehensible Spanish (per ACTFL guidelines) making it possible to maintain TL use even when explaining this tricky grammar concept. There are three opportunities for students to practice/formative assessment.
