Scaffolding a reading response paragraph

(0)
This resource can be used to scaffold and practise writing a paragraph response to a reading exam style question. This resource can also be used in lessons to verbally practise a response prior to writing. Students can answer the list of questions to support them in scaffolding and building their exam style answer. This is an alternative to the PEED/PEA/PEE paragraph structures and encourages students to focus on all of the specific elements of the mark scheme. Following the questions, there is also an example exam style paragraph response using this structure based on ‘A Christmas Carol’.

This document can be used to plan and assess pupils in their reading skills across KS3 (Yr7-8 or Y7-9). Spark Learning’s ‘Steps to Success’ document outlines the steps for progression through each Assessment Objective within the English Language and English Literature curriculum. Linking directly to the GCSE mark schemes, this document should enable you to map the skills being taught in each Spark Learning lesson to any assessment framework used within your own setting for both KS3 and KS4. It should also help to highlight the clear skill-based focuses for each of Spark Learning’s lessons and can be referenced and mapped across all of Spark Learning’s resources, aiding consistency and ease of use.
