I worked in England for ten years and am now the English section coordinator in an international school in France. My resources cover all areas of the curriculum at varying levels as many of the children that I teach now do not have English as a first language.

This is an idea I found and used successfully. I have made the templates to make it easier to create the finished product. I used the sheet as a design template for a mug which the children then decorated and gave as a gift for Mother's day.

Reading Log

This is a reading log to use with a class reading book. I laminate them and they can then be used with any book that the class reads together. I have used it with year 5 and 6 classes. More able students can work independently whilst others can receive more help and guidance, e.g. providing questions to help them find the main events in chapters.

Taste tests

These two worksheets go together. I provide 10 different types of food which the children have to identify by taste only. I usually do this alongside smell tests to encourage the children to focus on one sense at a time. You could provide whatever food that you want. I tend to use fruit and vegetables, with the addition of cheese and chocolate so that we always end with something that everyone likes! Be careful of children with food alergies. I do this as part of a topic on food and the digestive system.

This is a quite simple art idea as long as everyone follows the instructions. The end results look really good as a display in the classroom and I find that the children usually really enjoy it and want to make more.

Reading Log with book review sheets

I have used the reading log sheet for different class reading books. At the end of the book, the reading log requires children to design a new front cover, (with blurb) and to review the book. I use the two review sheets printed on two sides of a piece of paper so that the children can have their cover design and review together.

Measurement - mass

I have used this activity with a class who have been working on measurement of mass. There are two sheets, one with pictures and measurements in grams and a blank chart which you could adapt for your own class. The children try to match the product with the correct weight. The measurement leads to some interesting discussions about the weight of packaging. Children enjoy making comparisons between the different packages, weighing them in their hands.

Desert Island Books

This idea is based on Desert Island Discs. The children can choose 5 books to read whilst stranded on a desert island. They need to justify their choices. You could adapt the worksheet to change the number of books if you want to broaden the childrens' choice.

This idea comes from a book called 'The Art of Papercrafts' which I have had for many years. The sleighs can be a little fiddly to stick together, but they look great once they are finished. I fill them with tissue paper and some Christmas sweets for the children to take home at the end of term.

I have used this as part of a Space topic. After we have looked at the division of the globe into 24 time zones, they then complete this worksheet.

These two worksheets provide an introduction to the rules for turning singular nouns into plurals with some simple exercises to practise. The class can then reinforce their learning with more follow-up activities.

This is a simple, cut and stick activity for younger children. They can colour in the pictures first, then cut them out and stick them in a circle so that the concept of a cycle is clear.

Clay pot design template

When making clay thumb pots, the children can design their pot on this sheet. They can create a pattern for the outside of the pot and an image to go inside. The pot templates can be adapted so that the children design Greek or Roman pots, or create special decorative pots for Mothers or Fathers day.

Snowman Enlargement

Using the grid, children can create an enlargement of the small picture of a snowman. They should be encouraged to work on each square, not to look at the whole picture. I usually do this in the run up to Christmas.

This is a maths activity to do at the beginning of a term, (all becomes clear once you have cracked the code). The questions need to be answered using the four basic operations.
