Mathematics - Statistics - Probability - A,S,N Card sorting Activity (Formative Assessment Tool)

(1)
Probability - 3 column Note - Always true, Sometimes true or Never true Activity. This activity is for age group 11 - 13. There are many misconceptions associated with probability, This activity is intended as a short starter task to check if students have any misconceptions, so you could complete this before starting probability work, or you could use it as a plenary session. You can also differentiate by leaving some difficult cards out for less able students or by adding harder cards to extend the more able students. You could extend the task further by aksing students to write some examples of their own. You could give them incentive to find a difficult one by telling them their card will be given to another group to be clarified. Instruction for the activity: Inform your students to create three piles - one pile of always true, the other one as sometimes true and the third one as never true. You can also extend this activity by asking the students to give the reason for each card sort grouping. Print the cards in different colour (for five group activity- print five different colour). For future use you can laminate the same.
