OPENERS, ADJECTIVES, EXCLAMATION AND QUESTION SENTENCES Get your children to know, identify and use language features. A simple yet effective activity to help your children understand the different features and how to use them in their writing. This download includes two differentiated worksheets. You may wish to futher differentiate according to the range of abilities in your group. You can easily do this by setting challenges after they have commpleted the worksheet or simply add more language features such as adverbs. Please note this worksheet was made to help features used in non-chronological reports.

PUNCTUATION FAN - EXCELLENT AID TO LITERACY LESSONS

A twist on 'number fans' - punctuation fan includes fullstops, commas, exclamation marks, question marks, apostrophes and ellipsis'. Simply print out the templates and assemble with split pins. I laminated mine and hole punched on the hole on the bottom of the fan pieces and assembled with a split pin. This meant they could be used over and over without becoming tatty. My children absolutely loved using these as it was a new resource which they hadn't come across before - the head teacher was highly impressed too. Start by asking them to show you a fullstop/question mark/ apostrophe etc to identify any misconceptions or children who are not sure - this also gives opportunity for immediate intervention to cover those weak areas. Then, write sentences on the board with the missing punctuation mark or marks, and ask the children to hold up what punctuation is missing. I found that all children participateed and were engaged in this activity - children even asked if they could do more questions! At the beginning of the lesson as the children were coming in from playtime, I used the fans as behaviour management by handing them out to the children who came in ready to listen. This also worked amzingly. I am super impressed with this resource I designed and would love to share it with other teachers and hear your feedback.
