Reflection, Refraction, Transmission, Absorption? What happens when light hits?

(0)
This is a great way to promote higher thinking and problem solving while reviewing properties of conductors and insulators. PowerPoint includes refresher guided notes on how light can be reflected, refracted, transmitted, or absorbed when it hits an object. I print out the Riddle pages from the powerpoint 4 per page and cut them apart and tape them around the room. (normally on colored paper) Student then must go around the room and using the clues figure out what the object is and then decide when light hits the object that it will either reflect, refract, absorb, or transmit. Then as a class we review the answers to the riddles and how light interacts with the object described in the riddle. My 6th grade classes really enjoyed this For my AIG class they weren't allowed to talk during the activity and my EC students where given a list of all the answer words as help. 41 total pages file is a in a zip file answer key included

"Why is it important for humans to conserve all organisms in an ecosystem? " Number 10 asks "What is one new thing you learned while watching the video on the biodiversity. " This way they get a chance to watch the video and not spend all of the time on reading and answering the follow along questions. Hard time finding the video? look on dailymotion

The Sun, Moon, and Earth web-quest introduction.

(0)
The Sun, Moon, and Earth web-quest introduction. Introduction to the interactions of the Sun, Moon, and Earth. Used it with my 6th grade classes and it went well. Topics include Size of the Earth What makes Earth a terrestrial planet Earth rotation Earth revolution How long a complete rotation and revolution take Simulation on the Sun being the center of the solar system How the Earth revolves around the Sun, and the Moon around the Earth. Size comparison of the Moon, Earth, and Sun How the visible reflection of the Sun on the Moon influences the phases of the Moon viewed on earth. A build your own solar system simulation How fast are we moving through space right now. If the students have headphones with this lesson it works better because there are 2 video clips from youtube on the sheet. * I upload the worksheet to my webpage so it is easier for students to download and just click through the page on their computer. 2 pages long took my students about a hour to complete no answer key

The Layers/Inside of the earth webquest

(0)
Simple webquest using kidsgeo.com to go through the different layers of the earth, the composition, and depths of each layer. Using BBC.com students will use the simulation "journey to the center of the earth" to take a trip to the center of the earth they will document what they find at various levels. Finally they are to label a diagram of the earth with crust, mantle, outer, and inner core. Worked well with my 6th grade classes. 2 pages, took about 45min for my classes to complete Does not include a answer key
Newton's 3 laws of motion review and gallery walk.

Newton's 3 laws of motion review and gallery walk.

(0)
I use this for reinforcement or as a review of the three laws of motion. Included is a student note sheet with a grid to answer the laws of motion slides on the sheet as well. Includes a review of Newton's 3 laws of motion. A 37 slide powerpoing which includes 30 different motion pictures and or descriptions on each slide. I print out the slides two to a sheet and cut them in half and hang them around the room. However it can be done as a station activity as well. Students must identify which law of motion they think is happening. Then they must write a brief description of why they think it is that law since most of the slides can apply to all 3 laws of motion. Sorry since every student can have different answers depending on how they perceive the slide there isn't an answer key. What I did was have students pair up and grade each others and defend their answers to each other.
Punnett Square webquest practice, a good reinforcement or review.

Punnett Square webquest practice, a good reinforcement or review.

(0)
Good webquest reinforcement for Punnett squares that I used with my 7th grade science classes they enjoyed the online simulation creating an animal using random punnett squares. Part 1 Is a vocabulary review, they simply lookup the terms and write the definition. Part 2 They use a website to create an animal using punnett squares. Part 3 They have to select different flies for the correct parents using the prompt provided, then looking at the possible offspring and provide percentages of potential offspring for Homozygous or Heterozygous offspring. Part 4 Is a simple online quiz on the probability of inheritance. Links are provided on the paper, however I had to post the links on my website since they wouldn't open on my school's chromebooks directly from the paper. There is no answer key since most students answers will vary. 2 pages and took my 7th graders 50-60min to complete Here are the links to make sure they are working (please tell me if the links no longer work, thanks) http://www.kumc.edu/gec/glossnew.html http://www.glencoe.com/sites/common_assets/science/virtual_labs/E09/E09.html http://anthro.palomar.edu/practice/mendqui2.htm http://www.mhhe.com/biosci/genbio/virtual_labs/BL_05/BL_05.html (just cut and paste them into your browser)

Bill Nye: Pollution solutions. This was very easy for my EC classes. The first 8 questions are multiple choice answers and the last 3 are short response. This way they get a chance to watch the video and not spend all of the time on reading and answering the follow along question. Topics covered Earth is a closed system Point and non-point pollution Recycling Biodegradable Pollution sources Hard time finding the video to stream try looking on dailymotion
Science truth and misconceptions icebreaker
bmw2182bmw2182

Science truth and misconceptions icebreaker

(0)
Science truth and misconceptions icebreaker The page includes 26 strips you can cut out, each strip has 3 science statements on it. Two of the statements are true and one is false. I have the students read the 3 statements and let them select people to guess which one is false. Another way to do this is go around the room in order asking students. Another possible way would be to have the students think of another unbelievable fact and say it instead of the provided one. Worked great in my 6th grade science class, one way to bring in some of the curriculum items for the year and to dispel some common misconceptions.

Biome and animal mini-research internet project

(0)
I did this with my 6th grade class, on the website provided they must select one the the biomes to do a little research on, about it's location, climate, animals, plants, and some additional facts. Students can chose from 10 different biomes. After they research the biome they must select an animal that lives in that biome to do a little research on. They must find basic information about the animal, its habitat, what adaptations it has to make it successful, is it a carnivore, omnivore, or herbivore, and where it fits into it's food chain. The final question they must diagram the animals food web using 8 biotic items and 3 abiotic items found in it. Worked great as a review for my 6th grade science classes. 2 pages takes students 50-60min to complete
