I'm the founder of a not-for-profit that provides learning activities to children in the US and UK. I teach small groups of children throughout the week and develop lessons when I'm not teaching. I'm a strong believer in learning through making and discovery. I let the child take charge and direct their own learning by creating learning activities that are part of a larger project - letting the student take pride in their work.

Children learn best when they are invested in what they are learning and discovering for themselves. This fractions basics course allows children discover the concepts of fractions with a little help along the way. Children learn about halves, quarters, thirds and how fractions go in between numbers. Students also learn about space fuel and think about how they can use what they have learnt about fractions to design the fuel tanks in a space rocket (see intro video). The lessons involve a lot of "learning by doing". The video describes what the child needs to discover or make, then, lets the child learn for themselves. Sometimes a concept is explained in the video and then explored more offline. Total study time: 10 hours Individual lessons: 6 * UK Age Range: | Year 2 - Year 4 | KS1 - KS2 Science

Children are introduced to the different 2d and 3d shapes, sides, edges, vertices and nets. They are then asked to design 2-3 space rockets; using what they've learnt about shapes (see intro video).
