Colourful Semantics Worksheets

Colourful Semantics Worksheets

Colourful Semantic worksheets to print out and use with small groups. Introduce the colours i.e purple nouns are... Read the definition. Introduce one of the drawing sheets. Let each child pick a 'pink pronoun' or 'blue article' to write in the box. Repeat this for each box, spreading the matching words out and reading them. You don't have to work in order, you may chose 'purple noun' next. When they complete their sentence they can illustrate it. A good extension is then to change one of the words and write it underneath. I have found they quickly catch on and use their own nouns or adjectives. When they are ready they can try the sentence sheets. If they want to add words in they can use coloured pencils or pens to match the category. You could just use the coloured sentence strips to help them with sentence formation in their books.

Mini-beasts colourful Semantics resource (linked to Hungry Caterpillar)

Here is a Colourful Semantics resource that is linked to the Hungry Caterpillar book. It contains a mix of words for children at different levels. I have included a games board like I do for the initial sound resources. I laminate mine and curve the corners, sometimes I use a Velcro or magnetic board so that I can put out the words I want to focus on. I have also put in some worksheets to show you how they might be used. The fruit and days of the week help children to create their own mini-beast stories.

Broken Pen- Social Story

This is a Social story about a little girl who accidentally breaks the nib on her whiteboard pen. When asked what happened she shrugs her shoulders and then gets into trouble. The story helps open conversation about the difficulties children might have when explaining a situation. I have put in a few prompt cards that could be used during or after the story.

Computing Unplugged Pirate Floor Turtle Activity

Computing Unplugged Pirate Floor Turtle Activity

This is an activity to be used away from the computer. (Unplugged computing) It helps the children to use and understand control language. They move the mini robot or floor turtle around the pirate map to hide the treasure. They then write the route or algorithm on a work sheet so the treasure can be found by someone else. When they have written their instructions they can write where the treasure is on the back, then swap sheets with someone. If the instructions lead to the wrong place they can fix or debug their algorithm. Children can design their own robots or use the printouts, they look really nice laminated and stuck on counters or buttons. I have been using this resource for many years and the children always have great fun with it, especially if you make a class set to work in twos. It is worth laminating the maps and turtles.

Internet Issues and E-Safety -Full School Planning, websites and activities.

It is vital that we teach our children to keep safe online. Hopefully by sharing this resource you can help to give your children the knowledge to keep themselves safe while enjoying the Internet. These resources have been developed over the last 11years but due to their nature, they are always a work in progress. It is part of my Communicating, Collaborating and E-Safety planning (DL-CCE) Children learn how to communicate and share information in a variety of different ways. They learn how to stay safe when using the Internet and how to keep personnel information private. They talk about current issues such as Cyber bullying/friendship, mobile phone use and sensible and safe use of all Technology. They also talk about being aware of how long they spend using this Technology and how they can take ownership of their usage. They discuss 'The right to be unavailable' and talk about turning off mobile phones and other devices. We try to help them understand that social networking is a wonderful way to communicate but that it can be time consuming and demanding if not used carefully. I hope these resources help you to ensure that your children have the knowledge to keep themselves safe and the tools to deal with problems or dangers that arise.
