Deaf Awareness: presentation/ workshop

This resource contains 60 slides. Statistics: e.g. Number of deaf; BSL users; deafblind people in the UK; level of use of hearing aids & cochlear implants Barriers faced by deaf people: e.g. attitudinal; communication; to access NHS/ educational services How to promote effective communication for BSL users; lip-readers & basics of finger-spelling How to minimise environmental barriers Advantages and limitations of hearing aids & cochlear implants Information about the range of Language Service Professionals and their role There are also video clips embedded in the resource, to explain how the ear works, and how hearing is tested and measured, as well as what ‘tinnitus’ really sounds like. There are also some fun activities, which help to raise awareness of the difficulties faced by people who need to lip-read.
