The Boy in the Dress resource is designed as a booklet aimed for KS 2 & KS 3 readers. It can be used independently as a guided reading/homework support or shared as a half-term whole class longer text focus. The booklet is illustrated throughout to help excite young readers and it follows the story in detailed chronological order. The subject presents a challenge to boy readers in particular as it explores the feelings and growing pains of a twelve year old boy. It explores the differences between individuals and asks the reader to reflect on his/her own points of view-challenging stereotyped characters. This compendium of work has been created to help developing readers engage with and extend their understanding of the book Grandpa's Great Escape by David Walliams. HB: ISBN 978-0-00-749401-9 pub 2015. Pupils are invited to; complete a SPaG booklet [level 3-5] with questions presented as SAT papers. Learn more about Britain's entry into the War and discover 'Ten of the Best' British and German planes. They will use this knowledge to develop their strategic thinking skills by playing a board game; 'Battle for the Skies'. They will respond to Walliams' comic writing by completing a humorous playscript based on the dialogue between Detectives Beef and Bone and have fun acting it out. They will play a board game of chance with 'Escape of 'Twilight Towers' and then try to outwit Reverend Hogg in the a borad game of 'Charge of the Old Brigade'in which they will revisit the narrative from this chapter. They can have fun inventing a new moustache for a young Grandpa and finally they are asked to write a narrative poem based on Grandpa's life story. This work is suitable for use as; whole class independent work, differentiation/extension activities in class or as a half-term homework project. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a 2003 mystery novel by British writer Mark Haddon. Haddon and The Curious Incident won the Whitbread Book Awards for Best Novel and Book of the Year, the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Book, and the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize. Unusually, it was published simultaneously in separate editions for adults and children. This STUDY BOOKLET had been designed to challenge the grammatical knowledge and punctuation skills of year 7/8 pupils. It combines the wonderful classic story and discusses the effects of BULLYING. During the work the 'Chief Inspector' invites the reader to become a STORY SLEUTH by completing the DETECTIVE TRAINING HANDBOOK. The reader needs to follow Sophie and the BFG on their big adventure. More importantly, the reader has to discover ways of challenging BULLIES in the REAL world. To keep the reader motivated there are many diverse tasks to complete; a word search, note making, sketching, formulating and answering text questions. Empathising with the characters predicament and blossoming friendship, while discovering how to manipulate words like the brilliant Roald Dahl by exploring Spoonerisms, idioms, root and nonsense words.
