The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a 2003 mystery novel by British writer Mark Haddon. Haddon and The Curious Incident won the Whitbread Book Awards for Best Novel and Book of the Year, the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Book, and the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize. Unusually, it was published simultaneously in separate editions for adults and children. This STUDY BOOKLET had been designed to challenge the grammatical knowledge and punctuation skills of year 7/8 pupils. It has a clear format and has been created to compliment the shared reading of the book. Also included are some NUMBER PUZZLES that feature in the book. This work can be presented as individual, group, whole-class or homework assignments. The Study Booklet can be used as a ‘Stand Alone’ resource as the book is not needed to complete it.

This unit of work is based on the book 'Pirate Stories&' - Macmillan. It has really inspired my ASD children to write their own Pirate stories. It compares and contrasts three pirate short stories and encourages readers - especially boys to interact and think about the writing conventions used by the authors. The unit concludes with the pupils planning and writing their own Pirate shirt story. The work can be carried out individually by the more able pupil or in supported groups as appropriate.

This unit of work is presented as an illustrated booklet that follows each chapter of David Walliams book - Gangsta Granny. It has been designed to help developing readers engage with and extend their comprehension of the story through a range of activities including; finding answers to set questions, word search, poetry, creative and report writing and drawing. It looks sensitively at the exploration of an eleven year old boy's emotions as he experiences the love and loss of a close relative. It also gives us a humorous glimpse into the shady realms of 'cat burglary'. It is one of a series of my David Walliams booklets. Good for guided reading and extended reading homework. This compendium of work has been created to help developing readers engage with and extend their understanding of the book Grandpa's Great Escape by David Walliams. HB: ISBN 978-0-00-749401-9 pub 2015. Pupils are invited to; complete a SPaG booklet [level 3-5] with questions presented as SAT papers. Learn more about Britain's entry into the War and discover 'Ten of the Best' British and German planes. They will use this knowledge to develop their strategic thinking skills by playing a board game; 'Battle for the Skies'. They will respond to Walliams' comic writing by completing a humorous playscript based on the dialogue between Detectives Beef and Bone and have fun acting it out. They will play a board game of chance with 'Escape of 'Twilight Towers' and then try to outwit Reverend Hogg in the a borad game of 'Charge of the Old Brigade'in which they will revisit the narrative from this chapter. They can have fun inventing a new moustache for a young Grandpa and finally they are asked to write a narrative poem based on Grandpa's life story. This work is suitable for use as; whole class independent work, differentiation/extension activities in class or as a half-term homework project. This unit of work had been designed to compliment the SUNFLOWERS SCIENCE/LITERACY - UNIT OF WORK. These units of work include everything you will ever need to complete a topic on Sunflowers. This part of the unit covers the Numeracy/Art aspects of the topic with close links to Science. Numeracy has a Powerpoint presentation that starts the investigation into Fibonacci patterns. There is also activities that cover; measuring and shape sorting activities, estimating and fun money/costing activities. An enrichment Art activity explores the 15 Sunflowers by Van Gogh and the pupils are then challenged to solve some thought provoking time/date related word problems.This work can be completed in class or set as an extended homework activity.

LANDSCAPE PAINTING - CAVE PAINTINGS: This resource offers a complete unit of Art and Design ideas with cross curricular links that enables students to extend their knowledge of Cave Paintings and the people who created them. This project looks at three major cave painting systems; Chauvet Caves; located in France, Lascaux Caves; also located in France, and the Cave of Altamira; located in Spain. The resource bundle is extensive and enables the teacher to pick and choose which elements to use. Plenty of background information is included and a range of interesting Art making ideas that students will enjoy and will produce a lively, informative display. We begin by establishing a Base Line of students knowledge and then build on from here encouraging students to reappraise their knowledge as they learn. An 18-clip Power Point presentation has also been included that highlights interesting facts about the three cave systems. There is also a 22 page set of Illustrated Notes that covers the Power Point facts – with extended notes about the conservation of the caves. There is a resource that looks at the period of time when the Chauvet, Lascaux and Altamira cave paintings were produced. It places the paintings on a time line and touches on the development of Early man. There is a resource that looks at the coloured paints that have been found in the caves and how these colours were resourced and made. It then explains how the eye sees colour and how low light levels affect the colours we see. We then look at the way the tools that created the cave paintings were made. This complete unit of work with cross curriculum links to; HISTORY, ART & DESIGN, SCIENCE, DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY & GEOGRAPHY. It is suitable for KS2 & KS3 students.
