Grid of Sums Maths ICT Investigation Excel Spreadsheet KS2 KS3 KS4

I was inspired by the Maths resource of the week recently on the Grid of Sums puzzle and decided to make an excel file that allows students to quickly work through the investigation. Tutorial on the puzzle here http://www.dr-mikes-math-games-for-kids.com/le-monde-grid-puzzle.html The Grid of Sums puzzle works by choosing a square and then adding up all the squares around it to get the total. If the total is zero then place a 1 in the square. This can be extended with many questions which are included. What you get: Fully coded excel file that is protected so that students can only interact with the game grid and not delete the code 11 questions for students to investigation Individual grids to problem solve on (3x3, 4x4 and hexagonal), also includes a ranking system so students know how good their score is. 3x3 and 4x4 2 player grids with auto scoring. Works with negative numbers as well Please note that I have tried my best to ensure there are no errors in the code, if you do find one then please message me and I will try to fix the problem. It is also difficult to lock in the conditional formatting and students can disrupt this feature by dragging the little dot in the bottom right of a cell. If this happens just reload the file. If you want to edit anything or add to the code then you will need to unlock the spreadsheet by choosing 'format' from the Home tab and choosing 'unprotect sheet'. Please email me at gwilson.physics@gmail.com with any issues

Scientific Enquiry Kitchen Roll Investigation KS2 KS3

(1)
A detailed and editable booklet that takes the classic kitchen roll investigation and provides a structured approach that will guide students through the different stages of researching, planning and carrying out an accurate and reliable investigation. In the investigation students will test the claims of a variety of different kitchen rolls brands either on their strength or absorbency. Students then use free learning (discovery) to design their own tests to gather evidence for these claims. NOTE: The kitchen rolls used for this were purchased from Sainsburys and are easily source able but any 5 different brands will do and can be easily changed in the booklet. Resource includes: Approx 2-3 hours of lesson time 1. Introduction to the investigation 2. Preliminary test and planning guide 3. Advice on graph drawing for both scatter and bar charts 4. General analysis questions as well as directed questions specific to the investigation 5. Success Criteria for scientific skills and self assessment 6. Targets and teacher assessment 7. Glossary I have tried my best to ensure a high quality in this resource but there may be errors I have not seen. If you do encounter any errors then please contact me so that I can fix them and get a corrected copy to you.

A recent report suggested that the Egyptians found that making the sand moist in front a sled carrying stone blocks reduced friction by up to 50%. Can your students replicate these results in a controlled manner by using trays of sand, wooden sleds and masses? A detailed and editable booklet takes this scenario and provides a structured approach that will guide students through the different stages of researching, planning and carrying out an accurate and reliable investigation. Resource includes: Approx 2-3 hours of lesson time Teacher's Guide with suggestions and how to resource equipment 1. Introduction to the investigation 2. Preliminary test and planning guide 3.
