Children will apply their vocabulary and inferencing skills with this short comprehension activity. The fictional text is based on the discovery of an old suitcase and its contents. Children will show their understanding of the vocabulary used by identifying synonyms within the text and will use the clues in the text to make inferences about who the items belonged to. Challenge For the last part of the activity, children are challenged to write a description of another item in the style of the author.

Draw a flower using basic 2D shapes

Children will learn how to draw a closed flower using basic 2D shapes (ovals and circles). They will use the shapes as well as a range of curved lines as guidelines to structure their flower. Children will use soft and hard pressure to create light and dark tones to make their flower appear more realistic (3D). The activity is broken into **steps **to help children achieve the success criteria.

Children practise joining two ideas in a sentence by adding a conjunction. Main Task: Children are tasked to select the correct conjunction to complete each sentence. Get children to reread their completed sentence to check that the grammar of the sentence is correct. Questions to help self-assessment Why doesn’t this conjunction make sense in this sentence? Which conjunction would be better? Does this conjunction help to link these two ideas? Extension task Children write 3 of their own sentences, including conjunctions.
