Growing Fact Fluency: Practice and Timed Test for Building Fact Fluency

Growing Fact Fluency: Practice and Timed Test for Building Fact Fluency

Fact Fluency: Addition and Subtraction! Are your students fluent with their facts? The new Common Core Standards require that all first grade students know their addition and subtraction facts to 10 fluently. In order to achieve this fact fluency requirement, students must practice and memorize these facts. One way of measuring if your students have learned their facts is through fact fluency assessments. You can measure your students' growth easily through this assessment tool, as a chart for tracking student levels is included. All you need is a timer! This is structured so that students can work at their own pace through the facts. Once a student masters their fluency facts, they can move to the next level. There are multiple assessments for each of the fact levels. Students can also track their own growth by using the individual fact fluency charts included in this pack. Also included are flash cards for students to practice their facts, and certificates to send home when a student has learned their facts. Since the students systematically move through the levels, the data collected could be used for RTI progress monitoring or other data collection purposes. Included in this pack are: - a letter to parents explaining the program - fluency assessments for addition and subtraction (4 of each addition fact set 0-10 plus doubles and doubles +1, and 2 of each subtraction fact set 0-10- PLUS horizontal options and differentiated options with 15 problems each!) - flashcards for addition facts to 10 and subtraction facts with differences of 10 -class and individual fact fluency tracking sheets -student achievement certificates for each fact fluency set -information on how I manage a fact fluency program in my classroom - 2 class data wall options where students can track their own fact fluency growth -"SWAG" tags for celebrating student growth -sticker cards for tracking individual student growth Though I use this in my first grade classroom, it can also be used to meet the Kindergarten fluency standard, or with struggling second graders who need more practice with their facts.

Coconut Counting Mini Reader Printable Book

"Chicka Chicka 1, 2, 3, How Many Coconuts are in the Tree?" Students will love making their very own coconut counting easy reader book. I have included pages for numbers 0-10 so you can use the pages you feel are appropriate for your students. At the beginning of the year, I just use 0-5 for my Kindergarten students, but more advanced students could make a book with more numbers. There are two options for assembling your book. The students can put the pages in ascending or descending order. I have included a different ending page if you choose to put your book in descending order. This alternative page says, “Now there are 0 coconuts in the tree!” There is also a page with a blank line so that your students can write whichever number you would like without tracing the number. For the coconuts, you can use bingo daubers, stamp thumb prints, dot stickers, use the included coconut pictures, or have students draw their own coconuts. This book would make a great math center or could be completed whole group. The repetitive text makes it easy for students to read on their own!

Family Journals

Family Journals

Building relationships with your students is important, but building relationships with their families is imperative to having a successful year. Family journals are a journal sent home weekly with a new prompt for the student and an adult in their household to respond to. The prompts will encourage communication between the student and their family member. Then they will return the journals to school, and you will read and respond to what they have written. The details on how you use these journals in your own classroom are up to you, but I provide details about how I have used these in my own classroom. The process is flexible, so you can make it work for you! There are Frequently Asked Questions included as well, so you can troubleshoot any issues that may arise while trying to implement these. The insights I learned about my students and their families were so helpful when meeting their needs and making connections with them. Included in this file are journal prompts to use with your students each week when you send your journals home. There are 88 different journal prompts that cover a variety of topics. Included are Everyday Journal Prompts, Seasonal Journal Prompts, and Would You Rather Journal Prompts. Also included are single page journal prompts, with all the prompts on one page, if you only needed them for a small number of students or homeschool setting. You will also receive instructions on how to start using family journals in your classroom, and a note to send home to your students' families to introduce the journals to them. These journals can be used with most grade levels, and I have included prompts for grades Kindergarten-fifth when specific grades are mentioned.
