KS3 Poetry Through Time SOW Part 1

KS3 Poetry Through Time SOW Part 1

This is an extremely comprehensive and thorough scheme of work. It has been planned as a challenging Y7 unit but could easily be used for Y8 or Y9. It embeds the skills and techniques needed for approaching the AQA GCSE Literature Paper 2 exam, as well as integrating opportunities for creative writing linked to Paper 1 Q5. There are a vast array of poems covered, starting with Beowulf and the evolution of English Language, moving to poems such as: The Lamb and Tyger, Ozymandias, Daffodils, My Last Duchess, Sonnet 43, Sonnet 130- then leading students to consider modern poems and poets such as Dylan Thomas, Ted Hughes, Benjamin Zephaniah, Warsan Shire. This scheme of work is a term long, and has therefore got to be split across two resources. Please email me or get in touch if you have any questions or queries. Thanks

AQA GCSE Literature- Introduction to Shakespeare

AQA GCSE Literature- Introduction to Shakespeare

This SoW was planned as a bridge between Y10 and Y11 study of Shakespeare for the AQA GCSE Literature paper. Although students will be studying Romeo and Juliet in Year 11, this unit focuses primarily on Elizabethan context, social and historical issues and then begins to explore the language and structure of Shakespeare's plays more generally. Quite a few of the activities do relate to Romeo and Juliet specifically. Every lesson comes with a full PowerPoint, resources and homework tasks. There are nine lessons in total, intended to span two weeks in Summer 2 term (but could be used anytime in the school year in preparation for studying Shakespeare).

KS3 Reading comprehension pack

KS3 Reading comprehension pack

A bank of lessons and resources I have created for our department to use in our weekly literacy lessons with Years 7, 8 and 9. I have made a generic 'reading mat' that can be used to support analysis of each extract. This can be printed in colour and laminated/stuck to desks. I have used mostly 19th Century texts in order to support the new GCSE specification. There are enough extracts to support the literacy lessons in autumn term 1.
