Word Family Literacy Station Activities - Short, Long, and Special Vowel Sounds

This pack is a bundle of my individual make words packs. It includes 3 complete books with 150 word families. Working with word families is an effective way to get kids reading and help them learn to decode longer words. This book can be used in a variety of ways, to make learning to read a hands-on experience. This book is packed with 150 different word families to get your students well on their way to becoming awesome readers! These activities are Daily 5 favorites! I use them at my word work station in a variety of ways: *One of my favorite ways is with Reusable Write & Wipe Pockets that I bought from Lakeshore Learning. (You can use heavy duty page protectors as well!) The kids use dry erase markers to make words and you know how they LOVE to use markers! *I also enlarge the pages to 11 x 17 paper, laminate, and then put them on a cookie sheet. The children put letter magnets on to make words. *Of course, I also print the pages off... but instead of having them write on the paper, I have them use rubber stamp letters. I also got these rubber stamps at Lakeshore. Thanks! Hilary Lewis

I use these labels on our Class Journals for a variety of topics. Children can choose to write in one of these journals while working on writing. I make the journals with composition notebooks that I bought at Wal-Mart for 40 cents and full sheet labels (but you could also just print them on paper). After I stick the labels on, I cover the books with Con-Tac Paper. Children love writing about their adventures and reading about the adventures of their friends! Be sure to visit my blog! Hilary

Mental Math Memory Game - Making 100

The ability to use mental math is an invaluable skill that will be used again and again throughout life. I included 20 pairs of math problems that equal 100. I suggest that you not use all of the cards at once. I started out with 10 pairs of the easier problems, and then switched the cards out. 40 cards is too many to remember!
