I teach S1-S6 in Scotland. I make supported, helpful resources for a wide range of literature and language. My aim is functional resources with a variety of activities, with attractive presentation. I use everything I make in my classroom and I am working hard to engage pupils with my resources.

The Hurt Locker is a film that will work at National 3,4 and 5 for Critical Essay Media. A supported unit for pupils (National 5 S5 pupils who have completed Nat 4). Comes with activity sheet and fully supported CEL. Appeals to boys and girls (I designed it with a set of mainly S4 boys) and it worked really well. Pupils were very engaged in the film and the discussions around key moments.

Focus on flashback structure and language. PPT designed for pupils to work through at their own pace after initial teaching. S1 focus but can be used to support creative writing in S2-S4 supported sets. Outcome: WW1 short story. Pupils very positive about this work - especially boys who are not particularly motivated.

Link to a very useful TED talk with a set of questions that are modelled on the internal assessment in Listening. Trialled for two years and found to be an excellent preparation for assessment. PowerPoint is a teaching resource with key skills in Purpose/Audience, Language and Main Ideas. It has model answers to go over with pupils and an extra language question. Full talk and transcript can be found on the link.
