Reading Review Bingo is a great way to review story content AND reading strategy/skill application! This fun and educational game can be easily applied to ANY text (fiction or nonfiction) with a narrative structure. This game puts a fun spin on typical reading review, and you can use it again and again with multiple texts throughout the year! Perfect for practicing the use of multiple skills and strategies with a single text (as students are expected to do on PARCC, AIR, and other state standardized assessments). Review the following skills and strategies with ANY narrative text: plot structure character traits compare and contrast making predictions inferences theme setting narrator point of view text to self connections vocabulary text to text connections author’s purpose summarizing AND MORE! Game play basics: 25 general skill/strategy questions are cut up and placed in a bag. The teacher pulls one question at a time and reads it aloud. Students first answer this question on their student answer sheets, and then mark off the square for this card on their bingo cards. The first student who earns a bingo wins! Finding Figurative Language in Song Lyrics

In this activity, students are asked to identify two songs by two different artists, both of which include some form of figurative language (simile, metaphor, idiom, personification, or hyperbole). Students include identifying information about each song, the lyric containing the language, and then must explain which type of figurative language is used (and how they know). On the back, an extension question is included in which students compare the figurative language lyric to a more literal (and likely more boring) version of the same idea.
