This Resource would be useful for GCSE Students to understand the character of Eddie Carbone, a tragic hero in the modern context. It aims to lead the students to display critical thinking and sharpen their analytical skills as they relate to the changing concept of the tragic hero, who, though not a man of exalted stature as in the classical tragedies, is worthy of pity and fear. The downfall of the ordinary man, a longshoreman, in this case, places him in comparison with Macbeth and Hamlet; his tragic flaw being as worthy of contemplation as that of the exalted Shakespearean tragic heroes. This Resource bears relevance to the expected criteria for high level attainment in GCSE, IB, AQA and CIE Curricula. An adequately detailed analysis, it yet, leaves room for the students to integrate more textual evidence, displaying their originality and critical thinking.
