Math Matters: Misc. Math

Math Matters: Misc. Math

I divide my class into teams of 3 or 4. After determining which team will go first, we begin the game. This is an editable power point so you can make different versions of the game with harder or easier questions. In this game you will have to forward each slide manually. Teams are given 2 seconds to read the problem and 15 seconds to answer. I sometimes use buzzers where a representative of each group sits in a special section. They must buzz in for their team to get a chance to answer. There are many ways to use this game…I’m sure you will come up with your own version.

Shakespeare Rocks-Bulletin board

Shakespeare Rocks-Bulletin board

A bulletin board of Shakespeare quotes (with act and scene). I usually enlarge the title and use it as the center focus. The smaller rocks are filler as needed. I have a free rock border jpeg to use if you wish. I cut and paste it into a legal size piece of paper and print as many as needed.

3D Graphing

This is old school 3D graphing, using red and blue. There are directions for making 3D glasses as well as the worksheet to graph the coordinates of a cube.

Math Rocks bulletin board

Math Rocks bulletin board

This is a bulletin board just right for starting off the year. It has various quotes about mathematics. I like to print the title at 200% and the rest as is.

Mathematical Epitaphs

Mathematical Epitaphs

A fun activity for Halloween. [if done early enough, it makes a great display.] Time for a little creative thought. Have your students write a mathematical epitaph. Examples are provided. Although this is geared towards math, it applies to other subjects as well.

Ice Breaker: What's in Your Backpack

Ice Breaker: What's in Your Backpack

A fun icebreaker that uses a student's backpack, wallet, pockets, etc. For each item of the alphabet they have, they get a white card. Who ever has the most cards at the end of play, gets a small prize.

Factorial Matching Puzzle

Factorial Matching Puzzle

This activity is for algebra I/II practice in computing factorials. Cut out the pieces and rearrange them so that they touch equivalent values. Note: there are four corners that are blacked out. They represent the upper and lower corners of this puzzle. This could be used as a homework assignment or a matching activity for a station.
