This lesson is an overview of the story of Ernest Shackleton and the crew of the Endurance during their two years trapped in the wilderness of the Antarctic. The story is told with the aid of a timeline of the expedition in the medium of a Prezi - similar to a Powerpoint presentation but a lot more fun! An explanation of a Prezi and how it works is contained in the Teacher print. The lesson contains; 1. A Prezi (120mb) which contains 11 slides that tell the story visually, with humorous speech bubbles, and full narration. The last part contains a short video of a journal entry from a fictional member of the crew. 2. A pdf file of materials to use with students, including; a. A one page text outlining the story. b. Learning materials for new vocabulary. c. Listening and reading comprehension quizzes. d. A journal writing exercise. e. Page link to the Prezi (Can be viewed online or downloaded) f. Page link to a short animated video. 3. A full set of teachers notes and explanation on how to open and use the Prezi along with a contact e.mail for enquiries. A comic book style resource about Shackleton and the Endurance is also available on my teacher store here; https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/shackleton-and-the-endurance-comic-book-11173538

Gothic Horror Elements - A Multimedia Introduction

(0)
These materials have been designed to provide a brief introduction to Gothic horror and are also great for Halloween! I have provided a variety of multi media resources including two short animated videos and a ‘Prezi’ (like a Powerpoint but more fun!) along with associated quizzes and texts as a PDF resource which can be tailored to the needs of the students. There are two versions in this package. One for older students, and one for students of ESL or younger students The materials can be printed out and used in a multi media classroom, and the Prezi can be downloaded and installed on a computer for ease of use. Alternatively, copies of the PDF, which contains links to all online materials, can be purchased for students to install on their own computers so they can access everything directly. 16 pages The lesson contains; Version 1: Ages 14-16 1. PDF student and teacher documents that give an outline of the history of Gothic horror stories and the elements that are recognized as important to the genre. 2. A link on the PDF worksheet to view online or download the Prezi which contains 9 slides that describe the elements of a Gothic story visually with humorous speech bubbles and full narration. 3. Links to two animated videos and learning materials for new vocabulary, listening and reading comprehension quizzes along with a comic writing exercise. 4. A set of teachers notes and quiz answers along with a contact e.mail for enquiries. Version 2: Younger students or those studying ESL 1. The same PDF student and teacher resources. However, these have simplified language and vocabulary and have been changed from book form to discrete lesson parts that can be distributed as handouts in any order. These have the same links to the movies and 'Prezi'. 2. There are also a wider range of review materials for this version, including a crossword, reading review, word quizzes, comic book text fill and a reading and word test based on the language learned. If you have any questions about using Prezi or the iPad lesson, please feel free to contact me through TpT or download the preview and use my mail address. Picture Prompts - Story Writing Prompts for Adventure Horror Mystery and SciFi

This resource provides a fun and engaging way of practicing simple story writing. With that aim in mind I have put together some of the materials I use in my own ESL classes and believe they would also be suitable for younger students and others that may require further practice in writing and making short stories that have a beginning, middle and conclusion. The picture prompts can be divided into four topic areas; adventure, mystery, horror and scifi. There are four of each type with or without prompts, so the teacher can decide which to use based on the needs of the individual student or class. I have also provided a teacher guide to some of the ways these prompts can be used, including a method where the students write different parts of each essay in groups. The materials include: 1. Large image slides with 3 title prompts each in color. There are 16 of these that can be laminated for repeated use with students - PDF 2. 16 essay task sheets with image only - PDF 3. 16 essay task sheets with image and beginning sentence - PDF 4. Teachers Notes - PDF # Most of the images used in this product are my own and are copyrighted as such. Three of the images are from a copyright free image site called Pixabay. Jekyll and Hyde Part 1 - Video Multimedia Lesson

This is part one of what will be a 6 part series of Robert Louis Stevenson's Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde. It is an animated movie adaptation of the book and as in most such cases it does not adhere strictly to the original work. I made it with the idea of using different media as a comparison to the Robert Louis Stevenson work. The first video covers the beginning of the story where Utterson discovers Hyde late one night and later persuades him to pay compensation for his ill treatment of a young girl he had knocked over and stepped on. The movie and comic book style script included her are a fun and engaging way of introducing students to this classic gothic horror story. The materials included would be ideal for bringing the story to younger learners or students of ESL As well as the video, which is in m4v format, this product also includes; 1. Two comic book style versions of the movie script in PDF. One in colour which can be used for presentation purposes by the teacher or on students devices such as notebook computers or iPads. The other is BW for easier printing. Both comic books also include writing and question tasks at the end of the story. 2. A PDF worksheet for students to practice some of the vocabulary which may be new to them. This also includes a separate answer print. 3. A teacher explanation outlining the purpose and uses of the video and comic book and also containing the answers to the questions on the comic book.
