After reading an Ottoline book, have your pupils write their own sequel using this planning board. Useful for getting their ideas down and referring back to while writing.

Year 2 addition and subtraction maze problem

Year 2 Maths objective: add and subtract a two-digit number and ones/a two-digit number and tens. A fun activity to practise these objectives to solve a simple problem. I also used this with my lower-ability Year 3s. Could be adapted for different year groups and also for multiplication/division. Could also be used as a whole-class activity as a starter or plenary.

Expanded noun phrases diary extract

I used this with my year 2s during our work on diaries. The children had to add adjectives to the sentences I had written to make expanded noun phrases. Useful for grammar lessons in context!

Halving chain investigation

A really fun activity for practising halving numbers. I did this as a quick activity in pairs with my Year 3s, with a competitive element to see which pair could make the longest pair. The class really loved it! Differentiation comes from the numbers the children start with, the method they use for halving, peer and adult support. Includes challenges.

For Key Stages 1, 2 and 3. Can be adapted to include more categories if required. Useful for work on character either when reading or writing fiction, to help pupils sort their ideas out. The picture in the middle can be altered to include a picture of the character or a blank space for the pupils to draw their character.
