Covers national curriculum strands about understanding nutrition and diet. Looks at the different food groups with meal planning activities, making a healthy plate and sorting foods. This was really practical and engaging. We had some deep discussions about food types and the children were confident taking healthy eating beyond 'healthy and unhealthy' into carbohydrates, fats, proteins, sugars etc.

A notebook clearly explaining 4 different types of conjunctions: adding, opposing, time and cause and effect. This is complimented by a grid activity for children to sort examples from a word bank in to. For LA children there are some sentences with conjunctions missing and they must choose which conjunction fits best. Also provided: conjunction word bank like a jigsaw because conjunctions 'join' clauses together.

Learning to spell homophones is not just about knowing when to use which word, it is about being able to use the letters in the word to help you choose which word it should be. I have made simple, but clear and consistent, posters/help sheets which provide fun ways to help you remember homophones (written in black). For each one I have also given a sentence using that homophone correctly (written in red). 26 Homophones included: all the ones mentioned on Year 3/4 curriculum. Plus a few additional ones e.g. four and for. 6 near homophones included: any from the 3/4 curriculum and others that I found needed teaching due to regional accents e.g. are and our, won and one! Based on Philip Pullman's Aladdin version, a series of 6 lessons looking at different extracts (in chronological order) and answering a series of comprehension questions focusing on clarification, inference, author's choice and providing evidence with answers. The lessons follow a structure (outlined in the document) that encourages more discussion around answers rather than just giving children a text and them answering questions independently. There is a document with suggested answers though you may be surprised some of the things the children come up with for 'what do you think' questions. Notebook progression of skills of written multiplication revisiting partitioning skills then using grid method and long multiplication. The notebook includes a dice game which can be presented either in their books or on a sheet of blank grids (also provided). For grid method, we did lots of practical examples using dienes and whiteboards and then moved on to pre-drawn grids which they drew the dienes in the right boxes. There are two maths investigations included for extending and deepening understanding.

A notebook with clear progression from multiplication as repeated addition to arrays with an activity at the end (poster making) which the children completed in pairs and stuck up around the classroom. A document full of pictoral arrays - I printed loads of these out, spread them on the tables and children picked one up, stuck it in and wrote the array that matched.

Activities are differentiated three ways with mild, medium and spicy challenges. There's a 'sewing tips' poster/mat for the tables.

A notebook with explanations of past and present tense including a short activity quickly writing verbs in the past/present tense. Sentences for pupils to sort in to two piles (past and present) followed by mild and medium differentiated activities (mild = ticking past or present and identifying the verb. medium = re-writing the sentence in the other tense). The spicy alternative was to write any sentence and then write it in the other tense.
