This is a game designed to help students learn language devices in a fun and exciting way. This game is tried and trusted to engage students of all abilities, from high achievers to dyslexic children to individuals who are severely disengaged with learning. The game requires the students to match the 'Pokemon' to their 'abilities' or matching the language devices to their function. At each stage of the mission, the students are required to use a different Pokemon help building their familiarity with the language devices. The learning is consolidated at the end with a bonus challenge. The game can be easily edited and adapted to suit the needs of the students. The cards are best printed out and laminated before using post-its to write the powers on for the matching process!

An Inspector Calls - Dyslexia friendly modified text

This version of the play is perfect for dyslexic students! No more difficulty reading, retrieving key quotes or struggling to link the words of the play to visual cues. I have created this for my dyslexic students but any students with processing difficulties or ADD would also find this layout useful. The entire text is doubled spaced and laid out in a dyslexia friendly structure. All character names are in bold making it easy to identify a change in speaker. There are visual cues throughout the text to help students make links between the words on the page and what is happening in the play. I have also highlighted key quotes and moments throughout the play which are linked to the separate question booklet that comes with the download. All quotes are highlighted in red with page number prompts. I have already used this with my students and it has increased their confidence in reading aloud and engaging with the complexities of the play. Anyone with access to IPads can open this on the devices to save printing costs!

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde - SEN friendly version

This is an SEN friendly version of the 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' text. I have begun using this with my students and it is proving hugely successful. Throughout, there are images to help students visualise what is happening in the story. I have also edited the story to keep the key events in the text yet making it a little more condensed for those who find reading the oft difficult language more challenging. The text has also been double spaced to help dyslexic students.

Cyber Safety - Online Grooming and how to prevent it

This is a presentation I deliver as a trained CEOP/Thinkuknow ambassador. This presentation is aimed at training staff but can easily be adapted to be delivered to students and/or parents. The presentation is broken in to 5 sections: Section 1: Introduction to online grooming. There is a pre-session knowledge test of key vocabulary which can be added to during the session, or alternatively turned into flash cards. Section 2: The first of 3 True or False questions. The first section focuses on how avatars and online role player games can be abused by online groomers. There are examples of concerning sites and information on the Proteus Effect. Section 3: This focuses on the acronyms and emojis that young people use to communicate about sexual behaviour. There is a easy to follow explanation of how groomers operate. Then, there is a grid with the acronyms allowing the participants to guess before giving the answers. Section 4: This focuses on bringing the learning together and looking at transcripts of chats to analyse the warning signs. There are 3 different chats, 2 with translation in cases of difficulty understanding, all of which model how online grooming can take place. Section 5: Summarises the issues and offers advice for professionals and parents on how to educate young people on the dangers online.

Angry Words! A brand new interactive game that teaches students about word classes.

(0)
This exciting game is a whodunnit utilising the popular characters from the Angry Birds games. The 'Angry Words!' are all different word classes. Each of the 8 puzzles will help students to learn how to spot and differentiate between the different word classes. Students begin by matching the Angry Words character to their 'character description' which is really a definition for their word class. For example, Colonel Ective is 'Connective'. The 8 puzzles must be solved to crack the case of the missing egg and will test pupils' ability to recognise 8 different word classes. By completing the puzzles, students will be able to whittle down the potential criminals using the suspect grid. The powerpoint can be differentiated up or down and features the answers. Depending on your students abilities, the game could last one to three lessons. It could also be repeated over time to consolidate learning!

Bullying - 3 lesson pack + Role plays

(0)
Here are three tried and trusted lessons to help challenge bullying behaviour. These lessons have been used with small groups and whole classes, both in a mainstream and specialist setting. Lesson 1: What is Bullying? The lesson focuses on defining bullying and recognising how the behaviour becomes cyclical rather than linear. There is a comic strip and video links to help bring it to life for the students. There are some role plays attached too, to help model potential bullying scenarios. Lesson 2: Instigator or innovator? The lesson focuses on teaching students how they can diffuse bullying situations rather than inflame them. There are plenty of realistic scenarios to role play out and practical advice for the students on how to deal with them if they arise. Lesson 3: Respect. The lesson focuses on how to treat others with respect. It encourages the students to share their own experiences of being disrespected before looking at the heartbreaking real life example of Felix Alexander. All lessons are easy to customise and differentiate.
