This is a three page reading resource which I developed for use after reading "Happy birthday, Winnie" by Valerie Thomas and Korky Paul. It contains three pages with comprehension questions, a match-the-halves sentence exercise, a verb word search and a story starter prompting the student to imagine a story involving Winnie. It is suitable for children who are able to read and enjoy the Winnie stories. I used it with an ESL student who was 11 years old. The book is available to read online on the Oxford Owl reading site: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-school/default

ESL summer camp reward tokens to promote speaking

I created this resource specifically for ESL summer camps, but it can be used in class too. It is for children up to the ages of about 14. Since Italian children are often reluctant to use English, I reward any use of good English with one of these tokens throughout the day. At the end of the day, the student with the most tokens is allowed to choose a sticker from my sticker pages. I also choose a second student to get a sticker so that everyone gets a chance and the winner is not always the same person. They students then hand back their tokens and we start anew the next day. It encouraged a lot of speaking! There are four pages of tokens to be printed and cut apart. Two have 8 to a page and two have 6 to a page. There are different comments on the tokens: "GOOD ENGLISH!", "ENGLISH SUPERSTAR!", "WELL SAID!" AND "SUPER SENTENCE!".

Binky the Dog young reader's text

This short reading text can be used for extra reading or combined with comprehension questions. It is suitable for young readers and for young EFL/ESL readers. I wrote this text to add to my "library" of short texts which I give my young EFL students to encourage them to read for pleasure. I believe that giving them confidence in their reading and understanding abilities is an important part of preparing them for English Language learning as they progress through school. I print and laminate the sheets and allow them to take them home for the week until the next lesson. You can add comprehension questions if needed. I didn't as this is for reading for pleasure. Cinderella-the sequel. A play for young English learners

This is a short play I wrote for an English summer camp concert. It's suitable for learners up to about 12 or 13 years of age. It takes about 7 to 10 minutes. The main aim is to give them a chance to use their English in a fun setting. There are 13 characters in the play but it would be easy to add or remove characters. I've included a Word document for those of you who would like to edit the play for your class or group. My 11- to-13- year-olds loved doing this play, which was easy enough for them to learn in about 4 days. I hope yours enjoy it too!
