Montessori Sound Game | Initial Sounds | Boom Cards

(0)
The Montessori Sound Game is a phonemic awareness game to identify initial sounds in words. Phonemes are the sounds that make up spoken words. Online games for phonemic awareness can also be practiced independently by students. The main objective of playing the Montessori sound games is to prepare students for reading and writing by raising their awareness of the sounds that make up words. Although they are depicted on each card, recognizing the letters is not emphasized at this stage. No more than three sounds are introduced a day. This selection must include one known and two unknown sounds (unless it is the first presentation, in which case, three unknown sounds are selected). For this reason, a letter selection card appears when selecting the play button on the title card or the back button on any other card. This affords the person presenting the activity, the freedom to choose the appropriate sounds for individual children. The deck is designed to allow children to play the games independently. Each slide has a sound icon which plays the part of the game usually verbalized by the person presenting the game. A play button on each slide will drive the game forward in alphabetical order. Alternatively, children can select the back button to be directed to the letter selection card. When children use the deck independently, the report section can add valuable insight in terms of which sounds the child knows and which sounds the child does not know. The stop icon ends the game which is important when presenting the sounds three at a time. The object image order on each slide is randomized each time the game is played. When presenting the sounds, ensure that the vocabulary associated with the images used in the game, is familiar to the child. A list of the images and their names is included. The vowels are highlighted in blue, but this must not be emphasized at this stage. The colors are consistent with activities and materials that the child will work with after the Montessori Sound Games have been practiced extensively. The is no slide for the letter X as no words start with the sound it makes and this deck is emphasizing initial sounds only. Each slide has a sound icon which plays the part of the game usually verbalized by the person presenting the game. The stop icon ends the game.
