This is a fantastic resource that can be used to 'drip feed' children with the appropriate grammar, punctuation and spelling knowledge for the 2016 National Curriculum and Key Stage 2 spag test.
Each week, a child can be given a sticker in their daily reading log or home school planner (print the document, which is formatted in word, straight onto 99.1 x 38.1 mm address label stickers - 14 per sheet) . Each sticker has a grammar focus and simple task for children to consider while undertaking their daily reading. Each focus is clearly explained on the sticker and, through children's daily reading, spag is practiced in a meaningful context.
Tasks can be used for any period of time, I tend to use them as weekly focuses - which gives appropriate time for repetition and consolidation of learning. Explanations of key terms on the stickers are useful for pupils and parents and can provide a stimulus for discussion beyond usual reading response activities.
I've used these and noticed fantastic improvements in children's knowledge and tremendous GPaS SATs results. They're ideal for spacing out the vast amount of technical knowledge and vocabulary required to succeed. Key areas covered are: parts of speech (determiners, nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions/subordinating conjunctions), active and passive, verb tense (present, past, progressive), apostrophes, synonyms/antonyms, word roots, hyphens. Perfect for Year 5 and 6.
