Pirate Treasure Island - Descriptive Writing VCOP

(12)
A VCOP warm up lesson that leads into a descriptive piece of writing. The lesson is introduced through a letter in a bottle (I printed and tea stained it). The powerpoint illustrates a journey taken through a desert island to find hidden treasure. I also had a treasure chest with relevant props for each group to handle and look at to help generate ideas e.g rusty lantern, rope, parrot feathers, keys, ancient statue, shells etc... N.B The VCOP word cards came from another TES resource that I have linked to.

Topics include: Introductions and Numbers, Colours, Weather, Age and Months, Farm Animals, Food, In My Pencil Case, Where I Live, Transport, Parts of the Body. Rocks - Hardness investigation and erosion

(3)
Two lessons to fit into rocks and soils planning for KS2 (can be adapted for different year groups). 1) Lesson on the hardness of rocks using MOHS scale of hardness & investigation. This could easily be expanded to include more elements of planning and carrying out a full investigation. 2) Lesson on rock sizes and erosion. BBC class clip about weathering and worksheet with descriptions of different types of erosion to be illustrated. (HA could do this without the support sheet é write own descriptions from headings). Could be combined with allowing chn research time using books/internet.

The main part of the lesson focuses on creating personification based on the forest and writing their own ideas on the outline of a tree. In response to comments below poem now found and added.

This resource, aimed at Early Years/KS1 contains 11 flash cards covering French vocab of things you'd find in the garden. The final activity is a sheet of blank garden objects to colour and stick to create your own garden scene. Children could draw a basic garden first and then stick objects onto it or just stick to a brightly coloured piece of paper, as they are doing this to help reinforce the French vocab you can ask them if they remember any of the items in French or tell them the words again as they are sticking. Word and PDF files included so that you can edit/add to if you wish. All images are free to use and distribute with CCO licences.
