Character Activities: These activities can be used with any fiction story you choose that contains characters. Students can choose a character from a story, describe the character using adjectives, complete a graphic organizer that requires students to locate text evidence, and locate details to support and answer a question that requires close analytic reading. There is also a Venn diagram comparison included that can be used to compare any 2 characters in a story. These activities can be used in a whole group classroom lesson, for enrichment, or in a literature center. You can use stories in your anthology, novels, or picture books. I have used this activity in my own class to teach character traits, supplement my anthology stories, and prepare for PARCC assessments. The students really benefited from this used in a guided activity. Made for upper elementary and middle school levels.

Back to School: Time Capsule beginning and end of year activity for grades 2,3,4,5. This fun time capsule activity is a great way to start and end a school year. Students complete a page of information about themselves and draw an art sample at the beginning and end of the year. You can also photograph your students and include that as well. These pages can be assembled into a booklet for students to keep as a school year memory keepsake. I have used this activity as a first day or first week activity with my 4th graders for years! When I present it to them on the last day of the year, I see amazement on their faces when they see how much they've changed. It has always been a hit!

5 Spelling Choice Boards: Differentiated spelling activities to meet the learning styles of your upper elementary an middle school students. I have included 5 different choice boards. Each board contains 25 choices. There are repeated activities on each board, but each board has unique choices. There are more than 60 different activities, including some you may have never seen before. You can use these Choice boards as a differentiation menu of homework or classwork activities for students to choose from. You can set your requirements any way you like. These boards will work for any length of list. I currently have students in 20, 15, and 8 word lists in my 4th grade class. These boards will work for any of my lists. The boards include a variety of activities that require memorization, grammar, writing, creativity, art, math, word study, etc. My students love the choices! This packet of writing assignment activities includes writing prompts for students to write essays, work through the writing process, or answer prose constructed response questions/prompts (PCR) about Martin Luther King Jr. This packet can be used to compliment an upper elementary or early middle school reading or social studies unit on MLK. Narrative Writing: Donuts! Treat your students to a yummy iced donut while they write! Students will choose from 24 donut themed writing prompts to get their ideas flowing. They will write a narrative story using a graphic organizer and anchor charts. My students LOVED this activity! I introduced the lesson by reading a fiction book involving donuts titled "Who Needs Donuts?" by Mark Alan Stamaty. Then, as they began to work, I brought a tray of donuts out from the back of the room for them to eat while writing. They had so much fun! I had fun too because I ate a donut along with them! Popcorn science experiment or project that teaches students the Scientific Method in a simple and easy to follow format. Everything you need is included except the popcorn and some materials always on hand in a school or kitchen. Students will work together to try to find out if storing popcorn in different temperatures, such as the freezer, will help more kernels to pop. They will store several brands of popcorn in different temperatures. Then, they will pop the popcorn in a microwave or air popper. Students will count the kernels that didn't pop.
