J276 Computing Full Programme Student Resource

J276 Computing Full Programme Student Resource

This 19 page document has been used with student learning in mind. It contains every aspect that the learners need to pass the two exams. It contains the title of each topic coupled with a breakdown of each. Once the student has completed the learning, they can tick each one then receive a date stamp from their teacher. I have been using this format of checking progress in many areas of my teaching within Computer Science and this document, once printed, provides an instant glance into the student's progress. Essentially, this is the only paper document that they will need for the academic year. As the rest of the research is IT based, you can instantly check their progress. OFSTED gave me outstanding feedback based on one of my Computing lessons and specifically praised me for the use of progress sheets like this. It can also be used as a scheme of work for your own delivery. You can instantly see what has been covered, when, and what needs to be taught next. Interestingly, if short-notice cover needs to be arranged, you can use the progress sheet to provide an overview of what needs to be delivered. There are two parts to this download - the PDF, ready to print, and the editable PPT file that you can use and disseminate as you wish. This 19 page document took several hours to complete and I feel that it is value for money. I would appreciate feedback on this.

BTEC Assessment Grade Tracker Spreadsheet

BTEC Assessment Grade Tracker Spreadsheet

I devised this tracker a long time ago to track the grades and progress of our BTEC training programme and the several units that encompass the overall grade. It was so successful that it is now used across two different regions in two different colleges. I use this on a regular basis with my students as part of my own data analysis and give students specific tasks based on what is missing when resubmitting or chasing outstanding work. Due to the size and nature of the document, each unit is represented by both a specific colour and a hyperlink which goes to the first cell of the table where the grades will be present. The cells contain conditional formatting when specific text is entered in both the outcome cells and the result cells. Outcomes - Y (green) N & N/S (red) Result - P/M/D (green) F (red) It can also be uploaded to your One Drive folder where it automatically becomes an online spreadsheet. This presents massive advantages as it can be shared as both an editable document to staff and a view-only document via your VLE to students. You can add or take away tables, depending on the size of your BTEC delivery & assessment programme. You can also copy the same spreadsheet and add to another tab to represent a different year group or class. This spreadsheet has seen several different versions and is quite sophisticated in terms of what it can do. I think that this offers great value for money as at least, creating something like this from scratch would take several hours.

Wheel of Fortune Word Game in Powerpoint (IMPROVED) includes editable animated colour wheel!

Wheel of Fortune Word Game in Powerpoint (IMPROVED) includes editable animated colour wheel!

This wonderfully animated word game that resembles the Wheel of Fortune word game works beautifully on a Smart Board. Each letter, when tapped or clicked rotates around showing what is hiding underneath and can be easily adapted to your own teaching subject and edited to your own needs. An excellent starter or plenary in a literacy class, hang-man related game or something to keep your learners happy developing their own game. It can also be used in language or ESOL classes to check understanding. *NEW* it now includes a beautifully animated and fully interactive wheel that, when tapped or clicked, spins indefinitely! You can use this wheel to help choose a team when answering questions or you can export it to any presentation you like! I would love some feedback about this, or any of my resources. Please note: this is a template for you to edit to your own needs. It is a fully functioning tool ready for you to add your own content and game ideas. Inappropriate feedback was added, reported and removed recently as a user presumed that "adapted to your own teaching subject and edited to your own needs" meant it was a ready-to-play game. If leaving feedback, please keep it relevant and appropriate.

Full lesson in Networking & Topology (includes lesson plan) in Word & Powerpoint.

Full lesson in Networking & Topology (includes lesson plan) in Word & Powerpoint.

I created this resource for a job interview (observed class) at a school. I got the job. The theme is Computer Networking and includes a considerable amount of information that you can dissect and change round as you wish that covers networking, topology, hardware, servers, switches, routers and more. I managed to get my hands on a bunch of RJ45's and a switch so the learners were able to see and feel what an actual networking component looks like. The package includes; Full lesson plan Full lesson deliverables (at least one hour) Resources (acronyms and learner feedback) Interactive starter (PC hardware) Online exercises in bus, star and ring topology Progression exercise in networking acronyms (extension) The session content includes several opportunities to check the learners progress. I have also included a section at the very top of the session in Equality and Diversity. It will be irrelevant now, but it was about Ramadan. If you are to use this resource, I would advise looking up what is happening in the Equality and Diversity calender for that day and add it in. I recieved some excellent feedback about the lesson from SMT. A great deal of careful planning has gone into this resource. I hope you enjoy using it.

Digital Scavenger Hunt - Team Building Activity

Digital Scavenger Hunt - Team Building Activity

I made this resource for a day-long team building session for a group of 12 lower ability FE learners. It was designed to last around six hours and did exactly that. The idea is that each team uses digital technology and the internet to help their team to win. It's a whole day of fun that can be used for any age-groups including colleagues and SLT alike. There really is no age limit or restriction to this. The premise is this: the class is broken up into four groups - 1 - red, 2 - green, 3 - orange and 4 - purple. Each team is given a special object - game consoles, pop music, Star Wars and anime which forms part of their own scavenger hunt. Each learner will have their name added to the wheel which chooses what team they are on and they then progress to choose each team, colour and special object. The selection process is completely random and is used on extremely interactive features that I have built into the presentation. This is perfect for learners who need to be broken out of social circles and helps with confidence building and communication. Once in their groups, each colour gets a ticket containing an easy, medium or hard challenge that they must complete using the internet. Some contain simple riddles, others contain serious challenges that they must use team work alone to solve. Each team will win a 'silver eagle' for every challenge that they complete. For every two challenges that they complete in sequence, they get an extra 'silver eagle' and the objective is simple; the team with the most 'silver eagles' wins the Hunt. I tempted my lot with biscuits. They were happy enough with that. Some work is required by the user to print, present and distribute the Hunt. For example - the coloured slides print off nicely to a credit-card size where they can be cut out, and given to each team as they complete them. I have also included a sheet of actual 'silver eagles' that you can print and cut out. You will also need some editing skills to be able to add your learners' names into the selection wheel. I spent several days devising and producing this content and I really believe that it is value for money. If you are stuck for ideas for a day of team building for any age group from year ten to adults, then this will work perfectly for you. This is an extremely high-quality, carefully produced a well devised resource that is guaranteed to last at least four hours. Please be assured that you won't be able to cram this lot in to a one hour session. You are however welcome to break it down to suit as you wish. It contains many interactive features - hit F5 and let your cursor do the walking. Good luck and if you have any questions, please ask. I would also appreciate some feedback.

Playing Cards Fully Interactive Memory Game in Powerpoint

Playing Cards Fully Interactive Memory Game in Powerpoint

This is a fully interactive Powerpoint slide containing 24 playing cards that, when clicked spin around to reveal the other side of the card. There are two sets of 12 cards that can be used as a group task or individually to assist with memory or simply to pass the time. The background has been designed to resemble a card table and looks quite stunning and very attention grabbing. It can be used in Learning Support, as a starter or Plenary, Time Out or for wherever you choose within your teaching. The Powerpoint contains a singular slide containing a total of 48 images that have been joined together to resemble a table full of cards. They are fully animated and spin round when clicked. This works excellently on an interactive smartboard. This has been built in Powerpoint 2010 (PC) and has been tested on Powerpoint for Mac. It has not been tested on Keynote.

Block Busters Game Starter/Plenary Whole School in Powerpoint (with Xmas quiz)

Block Busters Game Starter/Plenary Whole School in Powerpoint (with Xmas quiz)

Blockbusters was/is a British TV Quiz game that was very popular with students in the eighties. It has changed somewhat now however this interactive interface works really well with starters, plenaries and looks like the original screen from the game show. This is as close to the original Blockbusters interface as I could get and is completely interactive. You can use it as a starter or plenary for any department and change the topic to whatever you like. It works really well with a group of any size and age. I use a Lego man for a day as a prize which is blue-tacked to the top of the winners computer screen with a large group of 18+ trainee computer technicians who really enjoy this as a resource. Please note that this is a template for you to edit - even though it comes with instructions, it is ultimately up to you to make the changes that you need to fit in with your teaching. Please don't leave negative feedback if you do not have the time to be able to make changes to it. The instructions have also been added below. I would really appreciate a comment or a rating on this resource. INSTRUCTIONS Hit F5 or click VIEW. You can see that each hexagon is made up of three layers. 1 - Bottom (white) layer 2 - Middle (blue) layer 3 - Top (yellow/letters) layer When the yellow layer (#3) is tapped (on smartboard) or clicked with a mouse, it will fade out to reveal layer # 2. When layer # 2 is clicked or tapped, it will also fade out to reveal layer # 1. Layer #3 is fully editable with regards to the letters or numbers that you wish to add. This particular version that you have has been used with IT hardware acronyms. The learner chooses and guesses an acronym and of they get it right, they gain a point for either the blue or white team. This resource comes with no questions – it is up to you to change the text that is presented on layer #3. This resource is designed for use on a PC with Powerpoint and can be adapted for use in any department. I have also added and included a Chrsitmas Quiz with full questions and answers.

Information Technology Timeline

Information Technology Timeline

I created this to use as an informational display in the classroom. It is a varied yet significant view at specific points throughout the last eighty or so years using clear and easy-to-read slides that can all be printed off and made into a display for your room. It is colourful, eye catching and looks fantastic when printed off and added to your wall display. Using the bigger names in technology such as Dell, Hewlett Packard, Atari and Apple, to name but a few. Each image is represented by a brief commentary and the year in history when each significant offering occured. Really opens the eyes of the young people as they are able to see just how technology has advanced. Thanks for looking.

Attractive wall display containing 20 large colour coded ICT related acronyms. Based in cloud images, I have cut out the clouds, glued onto blue card and stuck onto the Computer Suite window. There is a colour-coded key that can be used in the same way. The meaning of the acronyms are in small black words above the large bright letters, meaning the pupils will have to go and read them for them to make any sense.
