BTEC Level 1/2 Tech Award in Digital Information Technology: Component 2

(0)
BTEC Tech Award in digital information technology Component 2 Component 2 involves the creation of a Dashboard using Excel, covering quite a few complex functions and formulae. The resources in this pack have been designed to give all students the opportunity to aim for the Distinction grade and can therefore be differentiated according to the needs of an individual group. The presentations are designed to give the students a guide as to what to put in their work and will be supported by teacher’s individual lessons or one on one interventions as and when required. They will be vital in helping students become as independent as possible which considering the nature of the qualification is key to success, as students will invariably find themselves at different stages of the assignments very quickly. The folder contains the following files: “Learning Aim A”, “Learning Aim B” and “Learning Aim C” presentations. These detailed presentations are to be used alongside Pearson assignments and teacher led lessons. They will help students develop a more independent style of working and should alleviate some of the workload felt by the class teacher. “Holiday Data Macro” enabled spreadsheet and “Holiday Data” spreadsheet. The macro enabled spreadsheet has an example of all functions and formulae used in section B of component 2, and would is an excellent teaching aid and reference point for students. Students will be able to use these examples and in turn create Dashboards worthy of a Distinction grade.

BTEC National IT, Unit 2: Creating systems to manage information practice bundle

5 Resources
This is a bundle of 5 separate practice databases that would in my opinion ready a group of students for the 10 hour practical exam in BTEC IT, with some other specific input on validation of tables. As ever, these are not definitive, and I am sure that people would create alternative solutions to the problems but in my use, in my lessons, they have gone down well and allowed the students to create very strong links to the questions that are commonly asked in the exam. The students I have used them with are now quite confident in data normalisation, validation, queries, forms, reports, log in forms, testing, user interface and evaluations.

BTEC Level 1/2 Tech Award in Digital Information technology: Component 1

(0)
BTEC Level 1/2 Tech Award in digital information technology Component 1 This resource has been created to deliver the theory required for Component 1. It provides a stimulus for teaching and also something for the students to refer to when completing their work. You may notice that handheld devices and entertainment systems have been emboldened (slide 14) as these are the two I used with my students. The resource offers all students the opportunity to achieve a Distinction grade, and is thus differentiated by outcome. Some of the trickier section will have to be differentiated further for certain students. The resource has been designed with the creation of an app in mind. This is something that can be changed to suit local needs or the specific needs of a school. Some slides will have a reference (in the notes) to the part of the Unit specification it is designed to cover. In the notes section, any text in italics has been taken from the specification, and in particular the section on what needs to be done to get a Distinction grade in each particular Learning Aim. Expansion on the points in the presentation is up to individuals and also very much dependent on the expected outcomes for learners. For example a section on types of user interface can be made as simple or as complex by the teacher, as they need to. This resource has been created for use with the available authorised assignment briefs on the Pearson website. The folder contains the following files: • Component 1 Learning Aim A, Component 1 Learning Aim B and Component 1 Learning Aim C powerpoint resources to accompany the assignments (authorised or bespoke) • Sample GANTT planner using Excel • Sample PERT chart (Neoteric stadium) • Sample Home page wireframe design

This zip file contains a resource developed to help deliver the BTEC National Extended Certificate in IT, and specifically focuses on Unit 2, creating systems to manage information. It contains files that teachers can use to help students understand what is required from the exam in this unit. This resource is part of a scheme of work that resulted in an ALPS rating of “1” for Information technology at the college I work for. The zip folder contains the following files: Artworks database: A comprehensive solution to the question paper that can be used to guide students through various tasks and base lessons on. The database contains working log in forms based on the solution provided by Pearson following 2018 exams, relevant queries, tables and reports. Artworks Question paper: This paper has been written to simulate the actual exam set by Pearson. It gives the students a chance to experience what is required of them and allow them to become completely familiar with the requirements of the Unit 2 exam. Activity2tables, Activity3interface, activity4testing, activity5evaluation. These four attachments are based on the materials the student will be given in the exam. They are based on the most recent update (November 2018) by Pearson which affected the testing and evaluation activities specifically. The criteria for testing and evaluation has been left blank as this is something that should be entered by teachers who have a better knowledge of their students. It can be made more or less difficult according to range of abilities. Artworks data CSV file for importing into the database the students will set up. There is also a Artworks data text document as well as the original Excel data file should you wish to alter the data. Unit 2 Mark scheme – so the students work can be assessed once it is done. There are two image files that I have used in the production of the log in forms, simply because I like them, these can obviously be removed or changed accordingly.

BTEC National IT, Unit 2, Creating systems to manage information: Query practise database

Query Practice This resource has been created to give students a basic understanding of how to complete simple queries in Access that will form the basis of their exploration and development of the subject. Crucial for Task 3 in the Unit 2 exam, students can start with this resources and then begin to develop their own more complex queries. The folder contains two files - a database containing examples of Text field, Numerical field, Currency field and Date field queries, as well as a presentation that students can be given as a task. Please note that table validation has not been done in this database, as it is not the main focus of the task.

Unit 2, Creating systems to manage information: Input Masks practise

(0)
Creating systems to manage information Input masks Students will be required to set up masks to help validate input, and this will be vital for the testing task in the exam. Once they have mastered the basic text and number masks they will be able to apply them to suitable field types when creating a table within a database. The practice database contains two tables : Example warehouse table simulating simple warehouse stock system. The masked fields are Stock_ID - autonumber Product_name - Capitalisation / Lower case Mask Country_of_origin - Letter Mask Range_of_product - Must enter Letter / Must enter Number Mask Warehouse_telephone - Can enter Number Mask Product_price - Decimal Number Mask Example student details recording table. The masked fields are: ID - autonumber Firstname_initial - Capitalised Letter Mas Year - Number mask Form - Letter / Number Mask Attendance - Decimalised number mask FSM - Yes / No Postcode - Text / Number Mask UPN - Text / Number Mask Students can use this database as reference or change the masks to help them understand how masks restrict data input.

**Task 2: Validation ** Students will need to understand how to include appropriate validation when designing and creating a database. This presentation gives simple examples that students will be able to build on based on a Gym example. No data has been entered, as this is something that students may do themselves once they have amended or adapted the validation rules. The accompanying database includes examples of the following validation: • Range Check • Presence Check • Format Check • Type Check • Length Check There are examples of basic input masks in the database which students will also be able to build on. A list of the most common types of masks are in the presentation and students are encouraged to experiment with the different types to understand when they should be used. There is an expectation that students will know how to set up “Value” and “Table” Lookups using Access. In the example are one of each. Bear in mind for this example, the concept of normalisation has been ignored.
