Creating systems to manage information Input masks Students will be required to set up masks to help validate input, and this will be vital for the testing task in the exam. Once they have mastered the basic text and number masks they will be able to apply them to suitable field types when creating a table within a database. The practice database contains two tables : Example warehouse table simulating simple warehouse stock system. The masked fields are Stock_ID - autonumber Product_name - Capitalisation / Lower case Mask Country_of_origin - Letter Mask Range_of_product - Must enter Letter / Must enter Number Mask Warehouse_telephone - Can enter Number Mask Product_price - Decimal Number Mask Example student details recording table. The masked fields are: ID - autonumber Firstname_initial - Capitalised Letter Mas Year - Number mask Form - Letter / Number Mask Attendance - Decimalised number mask FSM - Yes / No Postcode - Text / Number Mask UPN - Text / Number Mask Students can use this database as reference or change the masks to help them understand how masks restrict data input.

This resource is an addition to the existing practice papers available in this shop. Following the January 2020 Unit 2 exam in which there was a non data entry form in Section B, these add ons were created. Students can now try the original practice papers, and then these bonus questions which will help them develop the skills required to create a non data entry form using Access.

**Task 2: Validation ** Students will need to understand how to include appropriate validation when designing and creating a database. This presentation gives simple examples that students will be able to build on based on a Gym example. No data has been entered, as this is something that students may do themselves once they have amended or adapted the validation rules. The accompanying database includes examples of the following validation: • Range Check • Presence Check • Format Check • Type Check • Length Check There are examples of basic input masks in the database which students will also be able to build on. A list of the most common types of masks are in the presentation and students are encouraged to experiment with the different types to understand when they should be used. There is an expectation that students will know how to set up “Value” and “Table” Lookups using Access. In the example are one of each. Bear in mind for this example, the concept of normalisation has been ignored.
