I love resources that ensure all pupils are able to access & feel confident within lessons. It makes me sad when a pupil feels stressed because they don't get it. I love hearing a pupil say "I am on it miss". All resources for main part of lessons are differentiated to 3 if not 4 levels of progress. Starters are mixed ability so that I can get pupils to feel confident in areas they struggle on. Any queries please email me; shacostello@gmail.com

Expanding Brackets - Bigger Picture

Resource; Expanding Brackets – Bigger Picture. Pre Assessment – pupils to demonstrate how much they can remember on the side of “what they should know”. Post Assessment – after pupils have been introduced to the new concept they then sit a quick assessment of a couple of questions to show they understand how to solve equations. Mastery post assessment – pupils demonstrate they have mastered the topics they have been taught confidently without any support. They have mastered the topic not necessarily through problem solving but through showing confidence in fluency questions without support. Contains; 1. 34 questions, moving from foundation level to exceeding. 2.Pre Assessment questions/post assessment questions. 3. 34 solutions provided. 4. Set of instructions to ensure the task runs smoothly. 5. Printable version – white version. 6. Please download file and ensure you don’t just drag and drop to google drive as this can cause issues with the viewing the file. Printing Tip: This resource has been designed to display on board or print on A4. If you wish to print, select ‘shrink’ or ‘print to fit page’ (or fit to page option on your print settings) in order for it to print correctly on A4. Tip 2: You could laminate and reuse for other classes. This could be printed in colour and used over and over again. Saving you time and money on the printing costs. File Type; PDF Idea behind task; Get pupils to demonstrate individually how confident they are at expanding brackets from single to double to triple brackets and also to address misconceptions at an individual level. Pupils can show clear understanding and if they get stuck then it allows us to put an intervention in place from the onset. Subtraction - RAG tasks and Check in task

(2)
Resource:  Differentiated Task on Basic Subtraction in preparation for the Arithmetic KS2 SATS paper. Red, Amber, Green (RAG) tasks (3 sets) – RAG task 1 – Subtraction of two digits and one digit, then two digits and two digits, then reasoning task with pieces of information missing as the secure section. Check in activity, quick individual task to complete as a post assessment to make sure pupils can subtract two digits and two digits. RAG task 2 - Subtraction of two digits and two digits, then three digits and two digits, then reasoning task with pieces of information missing as the secure section. Check in activity, quick individual task to complete as a post assessment to make sure pupils can subtract three digits and two digits. RAG task 3 - Subtraction of three digits and two digits, then three digits and three digits, then reasoning task with pieces of information missing as the secure section. Check in activity, quick individual task to complete as a post assessment to make sure pupils can subtract three digits and two digits. Idea behind tasks; This task is to address a gap in knowledge for many of my pupils with addition. Pupils are given time to practice the key skills on the SATS paper as a revision task or consolidation task. They often get no marks when it includes a square or they start off correctly and then mess up the addition/subtraction. This is to really hammer home the style of question in the SATS exam that should definitely earn our pupil’s full marks.  Pupils choose which colour they feel confident attempting. If they are really confident they should choose green, the secure option, if they are struggling they should choose the red or amber option (foundation – basic assessment of skill, amber is a little bit harder). Pupils show the questions, working out and answers that they have attempted in their class book. Answers provided for each stage.  Printing Tip: This resource has been designed to display on board or print on A4. Simultaneous equations - Thoughts and Crosses

(7)
Learners play in pairs to try connect four in a row. Take it in turns when pupil x chooses a question both pupils do it in their book. Pupil x puts his name on that square then pupil y chooses a sum. We use all types of colourful post it notes and then display around the room. Occasionally we complete in pairs as a poster.

Calculate missing angles in a triangle - KS3/GCSE

(7)
Get learners in pairs or groups to discuss how we calculate a missing angle in a triangle. Then ask learners how we would use or knowledge to solve the problems involving algebra. When learners say form an equation remind them how to solve using the balance method. For this particular task we completed them on posters for a display to show the challenges we had worked on.
Tick or Trash solving equations involving shape

Tick or Trash solving equations involving shape

(5)
Learners work the questions out from the middle column. Learners complete working out in their book. The tick the answer they have right and trash the answer they have wrong. Learners then state who is better at solving equations. Learners do enjoy this and especially when its famous people they like.
