I love resources that ensure all pupils are able to access & feel confident within lessons. It makes me sad when a pupil feels stressed because they don't get it. I love hearing a pupil say "I am on it miss". All resources for main part of lessons are differentiated to 3 if not 4 levels of progress. Starters are mixed ability so that I can get pupils to feel confident in areas they struggle on. Any queries please email me; shacostello@gmail.com

Subtraction - RAG tasks and Check in task

(2)
Resource:  Differentiated Task on Basic Subtraction in preparation for the Arithmetic KS2 SATS paper. Red, Amber, Green (RAG) tasks (3 sets) – RAG task 1 – Subtraction of two digits and one digit, then two digits and two digits, then reasoning task with pieces of information missing as the secure section. Check in activity, quick individual task to complete as a post assessment to make sure pupils can subtract two digits and two digits. RAG task 2 - Subtraction of two digits and two digits, then three digits and two digits, then reasoning task with pieces of information missing as the secure section. Check in activity, quick individual task to complete as a post assessment to make sure pupils can subtract three digits and two digits. RAG task 3 - Subtraction of three digits and two digits, then three digits and three digits, then reasoning task with pieces of information missing as the secure section. Check in activity, quick individual task to complete as a post assessment to make sure pupils can subtract three digits and two digits. Idea behind tasks; This task is to address a gap in knowledge for many of my pupils with addition. Pupils are given time to practice the key skills on the SATS paper as a revision task or consolidation task. They often get no marks when it includes a square or they start off correctly and then mess up the addition/subtraction. This is to really hammer home the style of question in the SATS exam that should definitely earn our pupil’s full marks.  Pupils choose which colour they feel confident attempting. If they are really confident they should choose green, the secure option, if they are struggling they should choose the red or amber option (foundation – basic assessment of skill, amber is a little bit harder). Pupils show the questions, working out and answers that they have attempted in their class book. Answers provided for each stage.  Printing Tip: This resource has been designed to display on board or print on A4. If you wish to print, select ‘shrink’ or ‘print to fit page’ (or fit to page option on your print settings) in order for it to print correctly on A4. Indices - Treasure Hunt

Contains; 1. 8 amber cards/questions. 8 green cards/questions. 2.Cross Curricular link encourages literacy with the pupils, mathematical discussion in pairs on how to solve problems around the classroom (this is a massive focus in our school). 3. 16 solutions provided within task itself. Each card is beside that answer to make it easy for you to check when pupils say they are finished. 4. Set of instructions to ensure the task runs smoothly. Printing Tip if using as a treasure hunt: This resource has been designed to display around the classroom. You could decide who was completing amber and who was completing green beforehand so you knew how many sets you needed. (I like to have in colour, but can be black and white). Print on A4 but I would shrink, two A5 pages per A4 to save on printing costs. If you wish to print, select ‘shrink’ or ‘print to fit page’ (or fit to page option on your print settings) in order for it to print correctly on A4. Idea behind task; To develop pupil’s mathematical discussion skills. To encourage pupils to get involved, engaged in task. To encourage mathematical discussion within the classroom. KS3 Intervention: We use this resource with the pupils who are on intervention in year 7 and 8.We also use it as a quick revision task before our year 7 baseline tests. Tip 2: You could laminate and reuse for other classes. This could be printed in colour and used over and over again. Saving you time and money on the printing costs. Click the preview!
