This unit is aimed at Y6 and focuses on the key question: 'What is the best way to show commitment to Allah? It encourages the children to think about Islam, faith and the 5 pillars. It’s a great introductory unit to Islam that is followed up by several units later in the year. This is a whole unit based on Discovery RE resources. It is a 6 lesson unit plan with the following learning questions: Lesson 1: What does it mean to make a commitment? How might a Muslim show their commitment to their faith? Lesson 2: Why do Muslims believe it is important to worship and worship together? How are mosques used for worship? What value do some Muslims find in private prayer and worship? Lesson 3: How does giving to charity show a commitment to God (Allah)? Lesson 4: Why and how do Muslims celebrate their festivals? Lesson 5: Why and where do Muslims go on pilgrimage? Lesson 6: What have we learned about the 5 pillars and how Muslims show commitment to Allah? Each of the 6 lessons includes success criteria and a challenge, as well as all the resources required. Y6 RE Unit Part 1 - Does belief in Akhirah help Muslims to lead good lives? based on Discovery

(1)
This is a 5 lesson unit (Part 1) about Islam and Akhirah for Year 6, based on Discovery education resources. Part 1 is ‘How does belief in Akhirah help Muslims lead good lives and how does faith help people with faith deal with matters of life and death?’ Part 2 is also available and follows on from this unit covering concepts of ‘jihad’ in greater depth. This unit comprises 5 lessons based on the following learning questions: Lesson 1: What is a ‘good’ life? Lesson 2: How do Muslim’s lead good lives? Lesson 3: What is Jihad? Lesson 4: What do Muslim’s believe about heaven? Lesson 5: How well does faith help people cope with matters of life and death? *I always plan for 5 lessons to ensure there is a lesson spare in a 6 week unit to explore one further or spend some time coming back to something the children did not fully understand - or to complete tasks. It allows for a lesson to go over two sessions, if required, in greater depth. All lesson PowerPoints (both in PPT and PDF format). All support docs/files for each lesson (both Word and PDF). Planning document covering each lesson with differentiation/extension opportunities. Please leave a positive review if you like this resource to let others know! Many thanks in advance.

The over-arching key learning questions is: 'Do Christmas celebrations and traditions help Christians understand who Jesus was and why he was born? This is a great unit that helps children to understand the difference between traditions and religion and how they are intertwined and have evolved over time. In this Y6 Discovery Education RE unit there are 5 lessons planned and prepared with all worksheets, planning and documents required in both Word and PDF format. Lesson 1: What events are celebrated in different ways? Lesson 2: To know how Christmas celebrations and traditions help Christians understand who Jesus was and why he was born. Lesson 3: To understand incarnation. Lesson 4: Which tradition or celebration can help Christians understand Jesus as the Incarnation of God? Lesson 5: To know that Christians believe that Jesus had come to give His good news to everyone. Year 6 RE 'Is Christianity still strong after 2000 years?' based on Discovery

(0)
This is a whole unit of work based on the Discovery unit, ‘Is Christianity still strong after 2000 years?’ for Year 6 which gets children to come to their own conclusions each week. A thought provoking unit for Year 6 pupils and provides them with some great opportunities to think for themselves and develop their own opinions - and justify them. Each lesson covers the following: Lesson 1: Who is influential in our lives and why? Lesson 2: Do festivals and symbols show that Christianity is still a strong religion today? Lesson 3: If Christianity is motivating people to do good in the world, does this show it is still a strong religion? Lesson 4: If some countries persecute/torture/imprison people for being Christians, does this show that they are fearful of Christianity and therefore that it is seen as a strong religion today? Lesson 5: Where else in British society do you see the influence of Christianity and is it still a strong religion 2000 years after Jesus was on earth? *I always plan for 5 lessons to ensure there is a lesson spare in a 6 week unit to explore one further or spend some time coming back to something the children did not fully understand - or to complete tasks. It allows for a lesson to go over two sessions, if required, in greater depth. This pack includes: PowerPoint Slides (converted to PDF format too) A unit of work with detailed lesson plans. Worksheets and documents for each lesson (both Word and PDF versions). If you like this resource please do leave a positive review for other users. Many thanks in advance.

Part 1 is ‘How does belief in Akhirah help Muslims lead good lives and how does faith help people with faith deal with matters of life and death?’ This is a challenging unit that encourages Y6 pupils to think for themselves and ponder about belief in a religion and the possibility of after-life, linked to it. Y6 English Unit - 4 weeks - Francis - Building Tension and 1st/3rd Person Narratives

(0)
This is based on an amazing digital text called ‘Francis’ which I cannot recommend highly enough. The children absolutely love it and are so engaged throughout and produce loads of writing. This film is a perfect lesson in building tension, the narrator uses pauses and varies the speed at which he speaks in order to build the tension. There is a heavy grammar focus in the starter of each lesson to help prepare children for SATs. This unit covers 21 lessons (4 weeks) and explores a range of genres linked to the video CGI Animated Shorts : “Francis” - Directed by Richard Hickey. Writing outcomes: Write a film review Write a first person narrative Write a third person narrative Write a journal/diary entry Range of ‘picture perfects’ All files are in both Word/PDF and all PowerPoints have also been converted to PDF for ease of use. A link to this Literacy Shed video on YouTube has also been provided but can also be easily googled. One night on a family camping trip to Quetico park, the reckless raven-haired Francis waits until her family have fallen asleep and takes a rowing boat out to the middle of the lake. Hoping to find a quiet spot where the teenager can lay on her back, stare at the sky and write in her journal, her expectations of a peaceful night at one with nature are soon shattered when an unexpected noise comes from the water below. Y6 English unit based on book ‘Wonder’ x 45 lessons - 1st Person Narratives/Biographies/Instructions

As a Y6 teacher I love covering this book and all its related themes of inclusion, resilience, bullying, disabilities, compassion, kindness and understanding. This is a big unit (45 lessons) I completed over the whole of Spring term with a heavy SPaG focus in preparation for Y6 SATs tests. The book Wonder by R.C.Palacio is a brilliant text to cover in Y6 and provides the opportunity for many writing outcomes - both fiction and non-fiction. Writing outcomes: 1st person narratives Instructions Biographies Picture perfects (creative writing from picture stimulus) This unit includes all teaching slides (week by week) in both Notebook and PDF format for ease of use and all supporting documents in Word (editable) and PDF also. There is a detailed planning document with SEN and challenge most days. I have included some display files for your English working wall and everything I use when teaching this unit - I do hope it useful.
