Roman Mosaic Solomons Knot

(0)
The Solomon’s Knot is one of the most common patterns seen in a Roman mosaic. This workshop shows how children can draw it out without using a compass or rulers. The idea behind this is to demonstrate that the Roman mosaicists will have done the same work for so many years, repeating certain patterns, that they could have developed the ability to set some mosaics without have a pattern drawn, or etched onto the floor to follow. They start with a large square on a piece of paper and then work free hand from there. The more times they do this the better they should see they can get.
