Squirrel Fun! Dynamics Matching Game for Large Group or Music Center

Have a little fall fun while reinforcing dynamics terms and symbols. Play a lively full-group game, or use as a more low-key center activity. Print in full color, grayscale, or blackline printing. Also included are two recording sheets for centers and a bonus craftivity that could be used as a bulletin board display. pianissimo piano mezzo piano mezzo forte forte fortissimo crescendo decrescendo Dynamics include options for using either soft or quiet as the English term for piano. Game time! Print and cut out one set of squirrels (choose the set that uses your preferred terminology-soft or quiet), acorns, and leaves. Laminate game pieces for durability. Large Group Game: Give each student one game piece. Leaves and squirrels form one large circle around the room facing the center. Acorns sit scattered in the center of the circle. On a signal, either individually or all at the same time, squirrels should walk around the center of the circle until they find their matching acorn, then they walk together to find the matching tree. Squirrel and Acorn sit on floor next to Leaf to signify they are finished. Play as a race, or time individual teams to add some friendly competition. Small Group Center Activity One: Shuffle the game pieces like playing cards. Distribute to each player. First player place one piece in the center, the next person either plays on top with a matching piece, or starts a new pile. If you wish to have a “winner” to the game, then allow the person who plays the final piece to each pile collect that set. The person with the most sets wins. Small Group Center Activity Two: In four-person groups, one person is the timer, one person is the checker, and two people are the players. The object is to complete the matching sets in the shortest amount of time. The checker verifies the sets are correct using the answer sheet, and the timer should record the time on a piece of paper. Then trade jobs – timer & checker are now the players.

B-A-G Recorder Note Reading & Writing & Fingering Chart Practice Booklet

B-A-G Recorder Note Reading & Writing & Fingering Chart Practice Booklet

Help your students practice their B-A-G note reading & writing with this practice booklet. This is considered an entry level music reading guide, and students will find all of the answers in the booklet. Their job is to make their own fingering chart, decode and label notes on the staff, find a melodic pattern in the song notation, and practice writing and naming B-A-G notes. Contains 4 pages to print double sided and fold to make a booklet. Answer pages and printing suggestions are included. I am not in favor of students writing in the letter names under the notes while playing. I have found, however, that at the beginning stages, students sometimes have difficulty decoding the notes fast enough to play the song with an authentic sound. This booklet gives them some additional practice reading, writing, and naming the notes. In my practice, I allow and encourage students to write the note names on worksheets, but NOT on their music for practice & performance. I hope you will consider this resource with those thoughts in mind.

Peter and the Wolf Story Re-Telling & Coloring Sheets

There are so many great Peter & the Wolf products available. Why do you need this one? Because it is only 2 pages! Descriptive sentences are very brief, allowing your students to fill in all of the details as they work. Print the 2 pages back-to-back on one piece of paper. Play Prokofiev's music as students work. Encourage students to talk to neighbors, re-telling the story as they work. Use this resource in a center or even in your sub tub, following your own teacher-led lessons on the Peter & the Wolf.

Peter and the Wolf Character Posters and Puzzles

Peter and the Wolf Character Posters and Puzzles

Peter and the Wolf is a great piece for reinforcing aural recognition of orchestral instruments! These posters will give your students a visual representation to accompany the instrument sounds. This set can be used in many ways. 1. Use posters for display on bulletin board. 2. Teacher or students hold up appropriate poster as a visual during listening. 3. Use PDF in full screen mode to project posters on screen or interactive white board during lesson introduction or for review. 4. Play a group matching game. Distribute puzzle halves to students. On a signal, perhaps while listening to a portion of the Peter & the Wolf music, students walk around the room looking for their missing puzzle piece. Students check for a perfect puzzle fit as confirmation that they have found the correct match. There are nine puzzles included in this set, so this will accommodate a class of 18 with no adjustments. Options for larger classes: a) Print extra puzzle cards, duplicating characters/instruments that may be new to your students. b) Assign up to 4 students to be the puzzle checkers, standing in the corners of the room. When 2 students make a match, they should take their puzzle to the checker to confirm, reading the names of the character and the instrument to the checker. Optionally, checkers may hold the thumbnail sheet showing the completed puzzles. 5. Use half-sheet or full-sheet puzzles and task card as a center activity.
