Dr Samantha's Science Resources

I have a PhD in molecular biology and a Master of Teaching - I have a passion for teaching Science at both the secondary and tertiary levels. Please feel free to let me know how I can improve my resources. Constructive criticism is always welcome! Also let me know if there are any particular resources you would like to see available in my shop.

Water Cycle Definitions

Water Cycle Definitions

(0)
Worksheet allowing students to match the definitions of the water cycle to their terms. Students can cut out the boxes and match them up by pasting the words next to their corresponding definitions. Alternatively, students can draw lines to match the words to their definitions. Australian Curriculum, Stage 4 (Years 7-8).
Modelling water experiment

Modelling water experiment

(0)
This worksheet guides students through the process of building water molecules (using a modelling kit) as well as their arrangements in the three states of matter. Students are given space to draw their observations onto the worksheet.
Waterways brochure scaffold

Waterways brochure scaffold

(0)
A scaffold students can use to help them organise their information onto a foldable brochure on waterways. It gives students topics to research, namely oil spills, fertilisers and pesticides. It provides sub-headings and explains how to reference.
Water purification (filtration) experiment

Water purification (filtration) experiment

(0)
This resource contains an experiment, allowing students to model and appreciate the process of water purification for drinking. It is a worksheet that guides both the teacher and their students through this process. Either the teacher can pre-assemble the filtration apparatus (consisting of layers of sand, pebbles and rocks) or the students can be involved also in this setup. Following the purification it is important to discuss with the students whether the water obtained is clean enough to drink and why.
Experiment modelling the water cycle

Experiment modelling the water cycle

(0)
A complete experiment for modelling the water cycle in the Science laboratory. It includes the aim, equipment, method, results and discussion sections. Discussion questions allow students to associate the steps of the model with the stages of the water cycle. Suitable for Stage 4/Year 7-8 students (Australian Curriculum). This worksheet can be given to the students and they can paste it into their workbook or keep in their display folder. The observations and answers to the discussion questions are recorded into their Science notebook.
Testing water quality (pH and copper levels)

Testing water quality (pH and copper levels)

(0)
This resource contains a worksheet detailing an experiment on testing the pH and copper levels in water obtained from different sources. The worksheet includes the aim, equipment, method and results table. After conducting the experiment, the teacher could draw up a class results table onto the board and allow students to enter their individual/group results. A class discussion could then follow to compare copper and pH levels.
Surface tension coin and speedboat experiments

Surface tension coin and speedboat experiments

(0)
There are two worksheets in this package. Coin experiment worksheet: Provides a step by step procedure for determining how many drops fit on a coin. It takes students through the scientific method and gives them the opportunity to come up with a conclusion at the end. Students are given a table to record results for five trials, allowing for a discussion on reliability. Speedboat experiment: Provides a method for investigating the effect of detergent and pepper on the movement of plastic bread tags. Also provides a results table to record observations.
